Druidism Q&a

Totally ripping off the Shamans, we've decided to follow their lead in the creation of a question and answer thread. So this is the place to ask any and all questions you have about druids, our RP, and things! We will be updating the front post like the shamans are doing, so make sure to check here first for answered questions.

Can anyone join the Druids?

Is it hard to become a Druid?

Yes! Anyone can join the druids! The order is open to all races (With the exception of unnatural beings like wraiths, liches, chimera, etc.), though people joining are expected to subscribe to druidic beliefs. To join, one simply needs to speak with a druid guide or Archdruid. A few questions will be asked, by which point they will be made a dedicant. A dedicant is a student in the order, and usually remains so for about 2-4 weeks during which they are given tasks and lessons. At the end of it, they will undergo the attunement ceremony to become a druid.

What's the very top limit of the capabilities of a top-of-the-line Druid?

From Arik: Top of the line Druid here. They're extreme. But, with great RP power comes great responsibility. Therefore you don't see me impaling dozens of soldiers Groot style (though it may be in my power to do so) on a regular basis. The neat thing about Druidism is because of how powerful it can get we train our Druids in such way that they only seek to use their magic defensively. It's why you never see a Druid misuse Druidic arts! (Also why the subtype is locked ;) )

From Me: This is a hard thing to pin down. It is very common practice to underplay druid abilities. If you look at the druid magic guide, under the old tier system, a tier 4 druid could grow an entire forest in about a minute. That sort of thing never happens in RP. What we are capable of in theory and what we do in practice are two different things. A good rule of thumb is the more nature around, the more dangerous a druid is.

Haha! Looks like this is one we beat you to!

1) What sort of RP can/do the Druids, traditionally seen as a rather insular or elf-focused group, provide for the server as a whole or the average player?

2) Piggy-backing off a question in the Shaman thread, how has Druidism changed on the server since its inception in Aegis? Did you, like the Shamans, have to make unwelcome adaptations to your practices/lore to accommodate the 2.0 magic system?

3) What is the official Druid group response to the recent Magic Plugin announcements? Do you have any recommendations for alterations to the announced mechanics or do you want it overhauled to better represent current magic lore and the practice of guild-locking subtypes?

4) How's Frank the Scholarly Scorpion doing?

+1 for Frank the Scholarly Scorpion

Also for the sake of new players, can you explain why Void magics and Druidism are different/why they cannot mix? Examples of contrast being channeling the void and being attuned to the aspects, purposes and motives, etc.

1-Sure!

2-Not at all. Just commit to the dedicancy (training process) and you'll be on your way!

1-A bunch of stuff!  Rp can be enhanced in many ways-by being healers, ministers, friends and great sources of knowledge, the Druids have been open to every race.

2-No.  We do not alter our lore as it's pretty well fleshed out.

3-We're discussing it with Telanir and I'd rather not start up any more arguments.

4-I'm not sure who that is.  But I'm sure he's great if he's with us!

What is the spirit-tree thing I've heard hints about in RP?

It's an RP secret!  We have many of those, and they stay so neat because we don't talk about them in OOC.  :)

Are we the most awesome magic-group?

Roughly how many Druids are there at present?

How many Inner Circle members?

Unfortunately, we lost our cherished friend when we crossed the portal into Thales.... but perhaps the legacy of Sammy will go on.

Also two questions I think would help out new players:

How does one become a rouge druid?

What is a blood druid?

To be frank, I myself at the time of the blood druids talking 'bouts with Respiren, I never really asked what it was or what they do.

4) How's Frank the Scholarly Scorpion doing?

1. We try to be not so insular, but we find ourselves heretics in Oren, which makes RP with that playerbase difficult. Elves we have our closest relations, and also the most on/off history with. Orcs and Halflings we're on good terms with, and I think we're still alright with the dwarves, who we did reside with for awhile in the Fringe. Certainly if you ask the druids to come out and return a plot of land to nature, we'll do it. I personally would like to see our members interacting more with outside of the grove.

2. This is a bit of a tricky question since I joined in Anthos, but I believe I know enough to answer the question. Firstly, we didn't have the concept of the Aspects until part of the way through Aegis. Since Aegis we've added a couple secrets to the order. The most well known OOCly is shapeshifting, which is secret enough that even most druids don't know about it. The MA system was a pain. Prior to the MA system, once you were attuned, you had druid magic. Once the MA system came alone, it caused plenty of problems. In all technicality, a druid should have tier 1 communion upon attunement, but we were never able to swing the MAT to let us do that. There was a period of time where magic was next to non-existent in the order, because we only had a couple teachers, who could only take a couple students and then was full for several months. Toward the end we did make a push to get more teachers and started spreading the magic around. Now that MAs are gone, we are largely back to how we were before. Upon attunement you get basic communion and control. If you want to learn one of the two branches of healing, you speak with someone who knows that discipline, since they are more specialized uses of the magic.

3. I'm not going to make an official druid statement on this one. I and many other druids do share concerns on it. Don't get me wrong, it looks like a very good plugin, but the way it's partially unlocking druid magic does violate lore, and it creates a problem akin to creator clerics. A lot of us would rather make sure it's fixed up now then wait until there are a bunch of players dependent on having the magic outside of how it is supposed to be gotten. Personally, I think all magic in a locked subtype should be locked. You could give the leaders a spell that locks and unlocks the ability to learn the magic, so long as it's a teachable spell. There was another thread where we asked about this and Telanir replied that it was something being discussed, so we're hopeful.

4. That's a question for Gildun :)
