Ooc Preface:

I am taking a break from LotC, details can be found in this thread:

As I consider it bad form to leave people hanging in-character, I have decided to kill off my character Joseph Lane. Ages 70+, it is not /that/ unlikely to die anyway, so it all kind of fits nicely, despite the ooc circumstances.

The desk of Joseph Lane.

An empty chair.

Strewn across the floor, some stray paperwork, never completed.

Thomas, the diligent Taxation Officer, slumped in a corner, in tears.

A notice pinned to the Petrus Noticeboard:

Citizens of Petrus,

It is with heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of Joseph Lane, Imperial Steward.

Found lifeless at his desk, surgeons report that his passing was without pain.

They assure us that, while working late into the night, he fell into a slumber and died of natural causes. As tragic as his loss is, may we all look upon his manner of passage as an example.

Where soldiers are remembered for dying on the battlefield, this diligent Steward may be remembered as dying in his own last stand of paperwork.

No inkpot unused, no feathered quill unbent.

The pursuit of victory in the field of numbers.

May his spirit find the peace of mind that his contemporary years were lacking.
