Hiebe 2493 Share Posted September 21, 2014 Since I joined the server and dwarves three years ago we have always been plauged by Ooc actions and hate. Ive done it, everyone has. We act oocly before rply and all if us, vets and new players alike, need to get out of this rut. I propose many of you to log in one day on the server and not the ts, stay out of Skype and just roleplay. Go to spawn or find each other in the capital or a hold. Just have fun. With so much bullshit like circle jerk and ooc strife finally ending we can all start a safe haven for positive dwarven roleplay. I for one am done yelling at lima in ts (luv ya English muffin) and having to deal with stress of a video game. I love ya all you internet nerds and glad I have been apart of this inner community if lotc that is the dwarves, lets have some fun again. -Hiebe
Stag 3234 Share Posted September 21, 2014 I couldn't agree more. Since I stopped using team speak and since I stopped relying on skype for finding RP I have enjoyed myself much more. If you go into LOTC wanting to find fun instead of expecting others to give it to you I assure you that you are much more likely to have that fun. Governments are run from skype nowadays. I agree that it needs to be brought back onto the actual server. RP over OOC! Nice post Hiebe.
KarmaDelta 969 Share Posted September 21, 2014 I know this feeling all to well. I only go on when I am bored and want to make fun of him and his condom fingers. I learnt my lesson from relying on TS and such, and I surely never want something like that to happen again.
Heff 2460 Share Posted September 21, 2014 I remember not being in the halfling skype chat and how blissfully peaceful and fun it was whenever someone got around to RPing, but once I joined I realized the inner-workings and player/player friendships were much more complex and it did degrade a little from the fun. Debating pulling a Petyr and making one chat strictly for updates and keeping the rest in RP. My only worry is that the halfling (and lotc) community has become addicted and hooked to using skype/TS , making the community feel less togethor when not in Skype or TS.

Parading 302 Share Posted September 21, 2014 I never use TS for this exact reason, hardly on Skype either. Then again I'm also hardly ever on the server... Anyways, OOC influence will always be apparent in RP. It is simply easier to act OOC'ly, especially if you are in a leadership position. Is it right? Hell no. Is it a good way to gain status OOC'ly, and RP'ly on the server? Hell ya. I find new players the most fun to RP with because they seem to have the least OOC bias, but eventually vets will break them in to our OOC culture here. EDIT: Heff you should definitely 'pull a Petry'.

Inkthorn 1434 Share Posted September 21, 2014 The thing is that it all boils down to player leadership. People encourage this kind of behavior. Nation leaders decide the terms of an alliance, or other important in character things, over a chat in TS, mostly. I've never seen real diplomacy or policy been handled on an IC basis. It'd be pretty nice if nation leaders actually called council meetings, discussed things, and actually roleplayed things like that out, or if they met with foreign dignitaries and such, but they just don't. There isn't really a solution to this, though. ...but on the topic of Skype. it's fundamental for the organization of small groups. It's next to impossible to ensure that everyone is able to attend an important town function, or that they're aware of what's public knowledge as of late because they've been busy, for example, without Skype. As long as the chat admin manages to keep things on topic and ensure there is no meta taking place, it's fine, but that doesn't happen often, and chats usually turn into cesspools of OOC, meta, and shitposting. As for TS, it generally serves no purpose. It's entirely OOC, and doesn't help with anything positive. I use it a lot, just because I have a group of close friends that I like to talk to in voice often, but when I'm roleplaying, I don't do much in TS. I kind of zone out of it, just type and do stuff in game, and such. I don't really use LotC or any group's TS, as they're pretty much crap; got my own little one for friends and myself.
Aedan The Bard 350 Share Posted September 21, 2014 Skype should only be used to keep in touch and give people who are being inactive for a while some sort of resumed info of what's happened while they're gone or something. But yeah, I've been saying this same kind of thing since around September 2011, in Aegis, back when TS was becoming popular. A lot of OOC bs took place through it. It's also the reason Adunia sucked so much for a while and the reason it died several times. Like, you can literally tell when people who you're observing IG are in TS or a Skype Call just from their behaviour and how they don't even talk to each other. At one point, a lot of the guards or bandits and other factions became masters of telepathy. It's like a hive-mind of sorts!

Maliewyn'divu 21 Share Posted September 21, 2014 Personally, this is why I don't like to share my Skype or get on TS. I feel like it encourages ooc action because it's easier to explain things in ooc than rping it out.
