[FINAL DRAFT]

The Relevance of Titles

I, Galan Evindal have been recently investigating the possible usage of titles within the mali’aheral community. This paper shall represent my view, and proposal to the silver council with a suggestion to a possible system we may wish to put in place.

-----------

The valah have designated certain prefixes for their roles within society, from the basic gender specific such as ‘Mr’ or ‘Miss’, to profession grade titles such as ‘Dr’. Beyond that, their political positions are typically represented by either ‘Lord’ or perhaps ‘King’ in higher positions of their society. Now, whilst many judge these to be irrelevant or perhaps merely a method of fueling ones ego when introducing himself I wish to counter such an argument.

I do not deny that many a person use their titles to throw something in their favor, show they’re higher than another or perhaps even abuse the powers it may hold. However it offers something that as a society we fail to accomplish, the capabilities to show our achievements to the world and show others we are knowledgeable and almost trustworthy. At this very moment, one skilled within medicine cannot be seen differently than a mere apprentice until perhaps it is too late. We accept the opinions of those who delve into science, throwing random theories into the blue as if it were fact. Yet, where is there evidence to show these people even had the capability to bring the truth to air? Are we accepting their theories with blind faith? Allowing us to believe false theories it not only trickery, but a failure to preserve the Maehr’sae Hiylun’ehya to it’s highest degree. How can we claim to be progressing with little evidence to speak of that shows it’s truth?

Now, the above paragraph is rather 1drastic. Depicting a worst case scenario, however for the most part the title is a glimpse of confidence. It allows us to accept the opinions of others with ease, whilst also rewarding those of great accomplishment through holding a title to their name.

-----------

However-- A governing system would be required if we wished to introduce titles into our society. My proposal starts with the Sohaer, he shall select one individual from each of the categories (Look below) who is the greatest at their art, this person will be granted the first title. Following such, this person may elect those that have provided evidence of greatness and progress for the mali’thill population and with the final approval, they too can hold a title to their name. For example categories and titles, observe the words below.

  1. Tayniir(Tn’ [Name]) - For use of those skilled within the medical practices, either from a physical or psychological point of view.

  2. Saniir(Sn’ [Name]) - For use of those skilled within the written science, such as philosophy or politics.

  3. Taliyiir(Ty’ [Name]) - For use of those skilled with any of the three core sciences; biology, chemistry or physics. This title is given to those that show great skill involving research, experimentation and find success within their work.

  4. Sethirr(Sth’ [Name]) - For use of those highly skilled within magic, this isn’t given to a mage for simply being powerful. They must have done something grand with the knowledge they have gained over time, assisting the mali’aheral.

  5. Ceru(Cer’ [Name])  - For those that have shown military excellence, one must not have only served within the Sillumiran but also committed to a great deed, perhaps a selfless action upon the battlefield or protecting someone with little regard for your life.

Kalameet nods slowly

"I have no qualms with such an idea, however perhaps the titles could be changed... As to what, I'm unsure!"

Kalameet nods slowly

"I have no qualms with such an idea, however perhaps the titles could be changed... As to what, I'm unsure!"

Galan quickly responds, before shouting from the rooftops in need of assistance.

"Unfortunately whilst I may hold an idea, my creativity somewhat fails me when it comes to the titles themselves. Perhaps one of a more creative nature would wish to.. redesign what I have formed the basis for."

Duvaindir, busied with his own writing ventures, set forth an owl to fly with the following in response to the shouts from above:

"Tayniir in place of Mi

Saniir in place of Iy

Taliyiir in place of Pa

Sethiir in place of Se

If you are one to write to these individuals, then merely write them as Tn, Sn, Ty, and Sth."

Cyrus adds a phrase among the others that are shouted in suggestion "Ah, how will titles be decided? A test? A council? How can we guarantee that these titles will not create the class distinction as are formed in lower societies?"

“You’re suggestion is most appreciated, and with approval from the Sohaer I would wish to use them for the final product of this paper.”

"

“As stated within the document, the first title shall be granted by the Sohaer and then that person will be eligible to reward those of greatness with such a title. If people consider having a title makes them better than another, then I doubt the Sohaer would have any trouble in revoking such a title for going against the main principles of our society.”

*The modified paper is sent directly to the Sohaer, along with an attached message.*

“Dear Kalameet,

This is the final draft I shall submit for the concept of titles within our community. Should you wish to accept my proposal, please select one from each of the five categories you deem worthy for the position and they will be the first holders of the title.

Ahern ito nae’leh,

G. Evindal.”
