The Imperative Of Protection: Enemies Which Gather

From a podium rises an elf with hair of silver and eyes of blue ice. He wears practical robes fit for a field researcher on his back, and a sharp, cruel arming sword of Raevir design and high elven make at his side. In his hand he carries a steel-headed battle-staff, and it is clear that this elf has gone through hell and back before.

"I am Asul'athri Parir'taliyu, former Okarir'tir of the Sillumiran and once-leader of the Fragments of Silver. I come to you today on the matter of a growing menace not far off the horizon, and the great need which arises in response to the aforementioned menace.

We of Haelun'or are elves of knowledge, of science, and tradition. We seek progress. We seek health. We seek wisdom and education, above all else.

And I mean above all else.

We of Haelun'or seek to build libraries and laboratories, before even homes and our walls and barracks. We seek knowledge useless to us when it cannot be defended. For it cannot be defended. For we, my lliran, are defenseless.

You will say, undoubtedly, that our military is greater than ever before. We find new recruits everyday, and more and more shall fill our ranks. Our military, in fact, is the most well-rounded in the entire world today - we can deploy at any given time, due to well-made timetables and postings.

And this is true. But our military is also, by this, limited. If we could all deploy at any given time, we would undoubtedly rival that of Krug's and Urguan's. But we cannot. We can hardly gather more than a few men at any given time, and for this, we are weak and easily crushed in an all-out war.

And yet, though enemies like Krug and Urguan and our cousins down below begin to gather their forces, begin to prepare and make threats, and we do the same, we call for a library, for a laboratory, for more pieces of art.

And these are all well and good, if they can be protected and defended.

Set aside your arts. Set aside your sciences, your quests for knowledge and wisdom, for what good are these when our libraries might burn, our labs might be raided, our people might be killed?

I beseech you instead to help shore up our defenses - if not in blade, for I would not force violence upon any of you, then in building walls and building barracks to house a large military and their stores of weapons - and to prepare.

Our enemies gather, and so I beseech you again to open your eyes to the imperative of our protection. There shall be no health without safety. There shall be no progress when our progress burns and bleeds. Stop your construction of a library and labs, and begin construction on fortifications to defend ourselves, like walls, like siege weapons, like our barracks and guardhouses and guard-towers.

Our enemies gather, lliran. And though I am not a warmonger, I see our history repeating itself. If we are not careful, and if we cannot defend ourselves and back idle threats and aggression with action and decisiveness, we will fall prey to yet another Purge.

Our enemies gather. And when they come, they will be the tidal wave to our coastal town, defenseless in it's oversight of not installing something as simple as floodgates. Unless, we are wiser than the fools in the flooded town, and begin to prepare. We are wiser than the aforementioned fools of the coastal town - so prepare, lliran. maehr'sae hiylun'ehya and iyathanthae ito Haelun'or."

He steps down, grim-faced. This will undoubtedly make him less popular amongst the denizens of elcihi, but he will do anything - anything - to protect and save his cihi. He swore an oath, and though retired, it binds him still - he cannot allow stasis to destroy his people.

((Btw, if you aren't a citizen of Haelun'or or a regularly allowed visitor, don't post, you wouldn't have heard of this and definitely wouldn't be able to act on it))

Lyrell listens, all the time arms crossed and nodding his head in agreement.

"If we had been more intelligent and stayed out of conflict, we could have focused on civilized and progressive aspects of society.  Alas, we have provoked the mali'ame and their allies and must waste our resources on violence and war.  These things are /now/ required and must be completed with haste."  Almecki states, annoyed

"Had I known about the coming battles and spillage of blood I would have planned accordingly. However as a Mali'aheral who seeks to progress my mind and not my thirst for blood I have planned the library. So if you wish to build defenses, which mind you I have a wall design ready to be built, build them yourself lliran. There is much talk about what I should design under the guise that one is speaking to the mali'aheral as a whole. If you wish to see something built. Then help build it." Iat puffs his hands into the air before heading off "I do not know what more you want of me!"

((Seriously :P There is a wall design that can be built. Someone build it))

"No, that makes far too much sense," Aurelia replies in a deadpan. She sighs, rubbing at her forehead. "If any of the guards need a place to stay while barracks are being built, my home could fit a few more beds."

((I would if I was even a half decent builder, but my best build was a hollow wooden block with windows everywhere. Trust me. You do not want me building if you care about aesthetics. If you don't... Well, sure. XD))

"I volunteer as tribute!", says Tennallar, holding up his ring-, middle- and index finger.

((But seriously though, I can do those walls for you))
