A King Crowned

[Principality of Savoy 915]

From the looming tower of the Cathedral in Petrus, Bells sing out their chorus madly, announcing the beginning of one of Humanity's largest ever gatherings:

 

The Coronation of King Andrik Vydra, first of his name, as Ruler and Protector of Men.

 

 

With thronging crowds stretching out to the streets, every last pew filled to the bustling limit, the chatter of thousands of mouths filled the air. Before the entrance, standing silent in rank and file, the men of the 2nd Akovian Regiment stood watch. Nobles, merchants, laborers, men and women of all ages, all stood packed shoulder to shoulder to see their king.  Above them all, proudly perched before the alter, stood Andrik Vydra. 

 

 

 

 

Before long, Bishop Kristoff arrived, standing behind the altar, raising his arms as he spoke.

 

"Andrik Vydra, do you swear to defend the people of Oren from any threat, and devote your life to their wellbeing?"

 

"Do you swear to protect the one true faith, and the purity of our race?"

 

Kneeling, Andrik looked up, speaking in an echoing tone.

 

"Until my last breath, or the end of days, I shall defend Oren, her people, and her faith. I do so swear."

 

"Then by the powers invested in me by God and his Vicar, I, Bishop Kristoff, crown you King Andrik I of House Vydra, Ruler of Oren and Protector of the Realm."
 

 

As the gilded crown was set upon his temples, the countless rows of spectators burst into applause, cheering out in a shattering yell.

"Long live the King! Long Live Oren!"

"Hail Vydra!"

"Ave Oren! Hail to the King!"

 

The scene quickly dissolved, the freshly crowned King heading towards his Palace, flanked on either side by his guards. Inside the throne room of Petrus, the crowd continued to swell, taking up every seat and ledge available. For hours, men and women cheered toast, raising mugs of ale and dining on food from all corners of the realm. Music and laughter filled the air in celebration. Humanity itself let out a great cheer in its unity, finally united.
