This post along with others got me curious.

I'm curious to know what everyone's thoughts on creepy, horror like elements into roleplay, and why they feel that way.

I felt the horror elements was how certain villains back in the day were popular. They had creepy characters, did creepy things, and were done well, thus provided really fun roleplay.

What's everyone's thoughts on creepy, horror like roleplay, and why?

I personally don't see how people can get spooked/creeped out by pieces of text, but maybe that's just me.

I do only spooky stuff.

The whole idea that she was talking about is already possible I'm pretty sure, but without the whole doll part.
Dormin Doomforge had a dead child that he had brought back to life with some sort of necromancy back in Anthos/Fringe or whatever. Husky played it I'm pretty sure. Below is the skin that he had for the kid, and the description of it.

EDIT: Just so you know, don't bother asking Chaotikal/James for skins right now, he ain't doing any.

The only time I've ever been legitimately frightened on this server was when I went exploring Dun'Sildur by myself and turned around to find a completely innocent but curious man up in my grill.

Creepy, dark roleplay was unfortunately ruined whenever the anti-edgy movement swept through LoTC. As of now, it's personally cringe-worthy when I watch someone attempt it and for the completely wrong reasons.

I have done horror events in the past. I wish I could toggle my ability to see people in vanish because I love participating in horror-like events.

horror elements, when executed tastefully, are very effective at creating tension in a situation, whether that is in roleplay, or any media really. one of the best rp sessions i've been a part of on the server was a torture session i was a victim of ic, and the reason why i look back on this so fondly because of the way the people involved used creepy and horror-esque aspects to create tension that made the rp very interesting and actually frightening, while not going overboard with it.

when horror rp is done badly, its probably one of the worst forms of rp there is. when done well however, it can definitely enhance any event ten-fold.

Creepiness and such can't be brute-forced with yet more creatures and creations and lore. If anything it detracts from and trivialises any creepiness on the server. True spoopy comes from an effective RPer, not lore.

To be honest I would love some horror Roleplay. But most villains now a days are half baked and nobody really RP's fear as much as they should.

I used to try it. It usually turns out to look kinda tacky or "spooky" unless you're really good at writing horror. It sometimes isn't the fault of a player for "not RPing fear" but rather the other player for not rping scary stuff convincingly (Albeit, it's hard to make scary things out of text and adorable cube people)

Really? What about creep pastas and Call of Cthulu and all that jazz? Are you just a cold blooded, no nonesence individual? :P

I think that it depends on the people you are roleplaying with. Personally, I think I'd find the creepy-RP silly and wouldn't really be able to take it seriously, but I'm sure a lot of people would love the RP.

This. I rarely get scared on LOTC. You have to sell it. For example I genuienly scared a wood elven player on my event char feral elf by dissapearing and then appearing right before them. Jump scares : )

Unfortunately, I've been convinced that a great deal of people who like to play 'creepy' or 'horror-oriented' characters haven't picked up a S. King book or delved into the hard art of writing horror. It is all about credibility and hellfiazz touches on it pretty well, most attempts by self-fooling individuals into thinking they are scary actually trivializes the whole idea of horror fiction. I won't lie, I am not one who has touched on horror writing hence I won't bullshit and lie to myself and say 'huh, I bet I can be spooky!'.
