It really doesn't matter either way, simply because I highly doubt that the staff team is capable of creating a proper layout which can support our current player base, previous maps are proof to that. This topic has been milled too many times, nobody ever listens.

What I meant by mentioning the nexus plots, is that I hope it won't follow us to the next map. It's scattering the RP, and making the main road seem like a shopping mall of sorts - with the exception that only the inns have people.. and let's not forget that their shape is absolutely appalling and people still want to put even more disgraceful walls around them. I don't care if you want your land to be safe & ugly, I want the world pretty AF.

 

We could just try a prebuilt and ready worldpainted map for 4.5 (Aeldin?), and a proper custom map for 5.0. That way we can see if pre-built maps can work, and how it affects roleplay.

No no, allow them to like what they like. I enjoy things without reason and explaining why, may actually make some find out that they dislike it. A fake enjoyment, is better than a brutal hatred.

The player base will never be happy and that is something that the staff will have to realize. Whether the players or the staffs ideas are brought to life, the player base almost always despises it. Personally, I think what LotC really needs is some guidance on where it is going. What I mean by that is not where it will be in five years or something silly like that, but where the next stages of the server will take us. Athera was a map built to spec based on nearly everything the player base wanted, and it has turned out not too great in my opinion. Not to say every day has been absolutely terrible; however, I have never really felt the magic that I felt on Anthos. Things were mysterious in Anthos and there was always so much to explore. When I play on Athera a lot of the magic just seems lost. It all seems mechanical and dry I suppose. A lot of it comes from how close all the main cities are, which was a big thing they were hoping for in 4.0. Instead of trekking through the wilds and discovering things to get to places, you just walk down a road and either make a right, left, or keep going. Also I think the shape of Athera causes some problems as well. Anthos was a nice big roundish island, while Athera has many things that stick out and around. So in the end you don't just end up exploring when you go someplace, you have to purposefully go out exploring. Also don't get me started on all the free build on the main land mass, that was a momentous mistake.

I'm not mocking or anything, I genuinely want to hear what positive points people can come up with about this current map in terms of the map itself and the RP that it has generated. I've found it quite difficult.

If there was a time to start on a new map, the window passed a while ago to be honest. Summer break for the majority of the playerbase is just around the corner and there's no way one would get finished in a timely manner now, that's just the best time to release a map. The mileage we're getting out of this map has been good in the past but now it's starting to come to a lull, and anyone who is 'active' will notice a drop of players. Considering the fact that everyone is bitching about the map too should indicate that it's not merely because of OOC obligations.

 

A .5 map needs to be started in the works immediately, one with plenty of room to work in, so there is something new ready for summer break, and 5.0 needs to be started immediately as well. At least start fleshing out ideas and post them in Your View to get some early feedback.
