Space 2335 Share Posted May 7, 2015 You flip two coins. At least one of these coins lands head. What is the probability that both coins land heads?

Space 2335 Author Share Posted May 7, 2015 Wrong, cause if one is heads all the time, you can either get tails and heads, heads and tails, or heads and heads. Hence, 1/3 probability But probability does not carry over. On both flips, the probability of getting heads is 50%, no matter what.

mylimo7 409 Share Posted May 7, 2015 It's 50% chance. One is a definite head and the other is not soo 1.00 x 0.50.
zaezae 1098 Share Posted May 7, 2015 The question is asking "What is the probability that you will get heads and heads?" The detail about you already getting heads is one of those 'distraction' details from the real question. Thus the answer is 1/3. But if you asked "You already flipped a coin and got heads, and will flip another, what is the probability that it will be heads also" The answer would be 1/
Space 2335 Author Share Posted May 7, 2015 The question is asking "What is the probability that you will get heads and heads?" The detail about you already getting heads is one of those 'distraction' details from the real question. If the question was "What is the probability of getting heads twice?" the answer would be 1/4. 1/2x1/2. It's not that question though, I don't think.
