A pamphlet is produced, published, printed and posted to each home in the city. It seems the time for progression has come again.

Defining A Good Life

The 9th of Malin's Welcome

Of the year, 1513

Medi’ir, Jupiter

Twenty years ago, I was first dazzled by the question of what it truly meant to live a good life. Since that moment, I’ve observed the local behavior in different regions all over the world to determine an overall answer to the question. In the past five years, I’ve stopped procrastinating and compiled my observations into a solid conclusion. After all these years preparing the perfect recipe to a good life, I present to you. My answer.

Generations come and generations pass. Each less predictable and ever changing than the last. Yet one thing remains a constant. Hard work. Yes, it’s hard work that truly fuels the flames of a prosperous and happy nation. Kingdom, princedom. It makes no difference. The true working man is the happiest. To finish work at the end of the day and look back at what you accomplished. The feeling is almost incomparable. Work keeps the body in shape and the mind honed. Work is what keeps an elf pure.

That’s right. I believe work is the heartbeat force when living according to the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya. Work is pure progression. Tangible and great. Without hard work, we would live in primitive squalor. Our entire existence would be dim. Everything you see within The State is the creation of someone’s hard work. It was their light of creativity that has shaped our reality. Without hard work, we would have nothing. No well designed library, perfect stone slabs or college to educate the blind. We’d have no drive to live.

I’ve personally witnessed a nation begin to die out when the hard working put down the tools of their trade. When the hard working abandoned their people for a life where their work was appreciated. This nation was not an Inferior’s regime. No. It was our own! The day our most adored city leaders buckled and crumbled, so did half our population. This ruining I wish not to see again. I don’t believe we as a people can survive without hard work. When those who wish for change pick their tools back up and recall what it meant to live a balanced, healthy and pure life. Then I believe our civilization will be able to grasp at the stars.

We’re too far along in the scheme of life to allow laxity run rampant in our city. Surely the social trend of coasting along passively is not working for us. This is the age of action. The time for those truly worthy of the name Mali’aheral to stand up and say, “I want to better my people.”

I believe we recognized the flawed mindset in modern society. There’s no doubt we’ve started to shift in viewpoint when we have long lost mali’aheral returning and council positions being contested by multiple elves. The race to prove ourselves as mali’aheral begins once again. The definition of a good life is hard work.

I'm open for debate on the topic if you'd like to publicly debate.

Suliin'thill would read the pamphlet twice before putting it down nonchalantly.

"This is hardly a new concept."

Defining A Good Life

Volume II

The 8th of the Amber Cold

Of the year, 1513

Fearful that no one would respond to my pamphlet, you can understand my shock when I received a reply. Fear not as I have, reader. I’m here to shed light on the idea of working hard to unlock the joy of a good life.

Though, working hard to gain a wholesome life is not a new concept. It certainly is a forgotten one in the modern era. Tell me, reader. When was the last time you harvested the ripe fields, heard the rich pinging of steel on stone, or felt the crunch of lumber against your ax? I surmise not in a very long time. That wretched boat with all its salt and sea diseases is no excuse for the laxity among our population. I believe some of you understand that and I’ve personally witnessed the ambitious trying to get their name in the door with hard work.

The next progressive step would then be to take a look at our society. Let me ask you something reader, when did we start living in such squalor? When did we allow our creativity to dull and our surroundings become so primitive? Did you see our boat? Even the tree elves across the way had a sleeker design than us. I felt like I was in a giant baby basket if you don’t mind me saying. Mali’aheral are meant to be at the peak of advanced civilization yet we don’t even have an educational system in place. There’s no drive behind fueling the technology industry minus Discovery Foundation whom I’ve yet to actually meet. They’re the only light at the end of this tunnel and it might be an illusion at that.

We went wrong somewhere along this ride. How about we get back on our horse and ride for the educated sunset? I envision our future population to be the most advanced species in the tree. This can only be achieved if we plant the seed today. With that in mind, I do believe we should found a centre for education in all things maehr’sae hiylun’ehya. A Ministry perhaps? We’ll see what the Triumvirate says. With the destruction of our homeland once again, thanks Obama, we have the perfect platform to create a Statewide academic and educational infrastructure that will flourish for generations to come. Do you see that future, reader? Hard work and infrastructure is all it takes to live a good life. Sirame ito kae'leh, nae oroment, maehr’sae hiylun’ehya.

I suppose I should thank you for reading, Reader. Aheran ito nae’leh.

Seth looks blankly at the name Obama. "Did he.. Get some of Amras' special tea..?" He mutters quietly in confusion to himself.

"What is hard work, Jupiter'llir? Is it the forceful application of pick to stone? The delicate touch of brush upon canvas? While your idea is of course, not new, it fails to put definition upon your thesis. If this hard work were to be defined and enacted as the will of the Maehr'sae Hihlun'ehya, What cultural changes would necessarily occur? Would these changes further our Health and Progress? In the time of the imperialist, our hard labor was lounging around subjugating lesser elves, slowly turning them against us with a state-wise callous disregard for them. This attitude, not only pitched us from our summit once, but twice. First with Phaedrus' Rebellion, and secondly with the Subjugation of all Malin's kin by Valah'acal."

Respectfully awaiting your reply,

                                                     Maehr'thill Div'allim
