Personally, I would change this to have more mild effects on the cursed/infected. Instead of gaining the ability to create webs and poison people, control of spiders can just do that. Add smaller changes for the infected themselves and have the spiders do the web slinging and poisoning. Swams of spiders surrounding a man or woman wit reddish eyes or skin deformities is less cliche in my eyes, and would be more interesting to see.

 

Tldr: No turn into spider, control spider and do same thing.
