When lockpicking chests for items existed, what did you like about it?

Nothing whatsoever.

We don't need lockpicking in any form. It's a wick for rage with no RP benefit whatsover. Besides, people will just hide their chests, just as they make vaults with 16 wooden doors to avoid doorpicking, or woud make all their walls 7 blocks tall if 6 block high grappling was allowed.

Lockpicking sucked when we had it in Anthos. That, and bringing it back is kind of a slap in the face to donors.

Yeah, I agree with the idea that you can only lockpick someone's chests when they're either online or you're in quite an active area, like Felsan most of the time or something.

Exactly what Lago said.

Lame stuff that doesn't really provide roleplay.

If they're going to lockpick my chests, I need to be informed OOCly.

Chest picking does not provide any roleplay except for the thief. And all it's really doing is making the person think they wasted their money on the server.

A skill for lock-picking similar to Bethesda where skill = difficulty/success rate and failure breaks the lockpick. There should be a limit though and not just to rp items. If it is then rp items should be made more dynamic and GMs should commit to helping all players name and describe their special items.

Also the VIP thing, higher VIP or perhaps smithing skill= better locks? Beyond that there should be a limit to what you can take. I for one would be pissed ((was pissed)) when/if someone stole my perfect condition 51% velocity bow with 9 enchantments that I paid to have named. Not really fair I spend every ounce of my minas then someone just steals the whole thing.

Make roleplay signs a must.

people will break rp  and metagame the fact lock picking was re introduced by hiding their stuff in chests in the ground

...How is that breaking rp or metagaming?

Even though people currently can't lockpick my chests I still tend to hide them and lock them because my character doesn't know people can't break the lock. I was just making a joke that now people who didn't worry about if their stuff was safe, will.

In my humble opinion, the possibility to steal things adds more depth to the world , so i'm ok with it.

Totally not a expert about servers and mods in minecraft but I once played on a server with this plugin. You can actually craft with it: locks (with traps and difficulties), lockpicks and keys. You must bring your keys always with you and that's a plus for Rp ( too bad there is no keyring, it could possibly fill your inventory ), considering the fact that if you loose the keys of your home, you can go to the newly created profession of door opener.

I'd remove also the LWC locks because it would break the whole lockpicking idea ( i'm a gold vip fyi ), but instead, granting vips various types of insurances (( and why not, extending them to non vip, but with a weekly (real days, so 1 year IG) high minas fee ))

I do not agree with the "I must be logged if he wants to steal from my chest", city guards exists, I think you should blame for them if you get robbed, it's the government job to maintain security in cities and towns.

Lastly, I think they could steal everything they want, richer thieves will steal only high valuables while poorer will get everything.

Again, this is the humble opinion of an ignorant player ( but lover of hardcore rules )^^

Lockpicking did provide RP for more than just the thief though, if they did it right quite a few people could get involved, the guards, a nosy neighbour, anyone really that's nearby, maybe not so much for the owner if they're offline, but I think some people are seeming to think that everyone that picked locks simply did /seen of the owner and waits till they're offline, there were many good burglars out there, the master thieves guild being a very good example of people using lockpicking to provide more RP.

Make it so that the person being stolen from has to be online. That way the thief actually has to wait for him to walk away from his home...and bare the risk of him returning, being caught, etc.

Waiting till someone is offline to steal **** is basically metagaming.

Like this idea, though it's not ideal

How about... no? And then, here's the punch, we say that we did put in these rules. Just to dissapoint the four and a half people who actually want this to be a thing. Doors being able to be kicked down / picked is irritating enough with the dumb method of how it's done with /roll, we don't need more of that. And I feel like that's how this is going to be implemented.

And this is when everyone moves their chests into their basements behind iron doors so people can't get into it anyways.

Oh well, make vaults! Plan heists! It just gets more interesting.
