Consuls In Stead? Kings Topic

Both skippy and Kralek are very well chosen candidates. They are both mature, reasonable, honest, loving, bold, and talented. As Verthaik's personal guard I feel like it is my duty to vote for Verthaik, but I am torn because skippy is just as qualities as kralek. And then it hit me, if we have two great choices with equal experience and capabilities, why not make them consuls(( look how long Rome lasted with consuls. )). Honestly our kings on not on as much as we need to be and we really do need them to be on, so if we had two we could have them helping if another is not on, or if two people need help. They can agree on plans for attack defense, the Kings guard would be largened by 1 or 2 people. It could overall be a great improvement in our Dwarven culture.

Please comment on what you think about this!?!?!?!

I honestly love this idea tbh, been asking for it (in my head) for a while now. Dwarves operate in a VERY Roman esque way. Consuls, the military, rivalry between families to be consuls all add for a dynamic rp experience. Rome had houses and familes, dwarves clans, rome had a military near seperate from the political system, legions status is very much seperate from politics. But yeah, consul's are also very good for having multiple leaders to talk to for information, or having a higher chance for one to be online/handle issues.

This is a nice idea, and you should try for it in rp.

Wow what a constructive post: "No.". The idea seems cool, but Im not sure youd be able to pull it off, as splitting power seems like an iffy solution.

Why is this OOC thread in the RP section?

Also, something like this has been done during Asulon. However, it usually ended up with decisions being overlapped by the various rulers.

A second issue is if that both parties are given equal power, they can deadlock the government by refusing each other's mandates.

((

A few issues arise when giving two people the same amount of power.

-They can slow down any form of progress to a standstill by constantly requiring the Senate to break deadlocks.

-Communication between dwarves and other races can become increasing complicated with multiple figures communicating. We had this issue during the Lord system which result in a few misunderstandings that were difficult to resolve.

-Even a minor slip in communication between the two can result in massive mistakes (eg: One Consul giving away the land that the other already gifted to a separate group.)

-Could result in one being undermined constantly in any effort they make.

-Would require the two to have the same goals and similar methods of handling.

-What happens if one leaves/steps down, do we then hold a vote to replace them or do we return to the previous system, is it then correct to undermine the winner for this particular election and not maintain the system or do the dwarves then create a entirely new system.

-How would the next consul seat be decided, by inheriting from the previous or by a new vote. Issues with inheriting is that an unfavorable individual could potentially get a Consul seat. Issues with voting is if the dwarves ever hit another time of instability we could be holding elections nearly every two weeks (1 month dwarf kings again).

So many issues can arise from trying to make such a compromise that first need to be addressed before such an idea is suggested again. If dwarves were to split the leadership position in two then it would likely result in a hold system as the two would be likely to each want to govern there own town (Not necessarily these two, but any in the future assuming such a system is kept). Implementing a hold system then is a completely different debate that has been going on for a long time. As of now until the appropriate clarifications are made with your suggestion Consuls would not work without requiring a massive amount of work. While in theory it sounds all nice and fair there are similar systems that would work much better then Consuls that are currently being rejected by the majority of the dwarven community.
