Watched the Gizzy Gazza Video - So Disappointed

That was possibly the worst advertisement or representation of the server I've seen yet. I'm so disappointed.

No knowledge of lore, no idea how to properly roleplay or emote.. It's just going to start a big rush of people to apply to the server who have no clue how to RP properly and who just want to do what was shown in the video. That event was totally fabricated. That's not how the server works on a day to day basis. That's not what all members experience.

That is definitely not a good example of what to do on this server. I'm really, really disappointed. The role play community here is drowning as it is. This isn't the way to get more RPers to join. This is only going to pull in kids who have no idea how to RP.

Look at the flood of denied applications talking about Gizzy bringing them here. This a tragedy of advertizing. What the hell happened? Was any thought really put into this?

Did anyone even show Gizzy how to emote or roleplay before starting recording? How was this allowed to go so very wrong? Why didn't you do a showcase of how the server works instead? Show off the crafting, show off the emote system. Show people actually, organically RPing. Anything but this fabricated loreless mess.

This isn't a programmed game you type commands at to win. >.< Role playing is not the same as a text based adventure game you type commands into. It doesn't work that way. You can't type " *fight* or *kill* ". Why were they trying to teach him mid-video about the emote system? That's so clunky. There was a serious lack of forethought, that's pretty obvious. You can't make excuses about that, there's video proof of it.

It just breaks my heart and makes me honestly sad. I wanted to continue enjoying this server. I wanted to try again and return but it's just... This is terrible.

And from the west coast we'll be getting yet another shitstorm, experts believe more threads will be posted on the matter within the hour to claim reputation points.

But seriously I too wasn't a big fan of that video either despite me lowering my expectations.

Not knowing how to properly RP on the server since you're new is fine.

Making a new person that doesn't really know how the server works or how its RP works advertise for the server is not.

Bring youtubers like this back. He explained everything so well, his introduction actually took the time to showcase this server before diving into "RP".

Stop.

Don't hate on Gizzy. (I know the OP doesn't explicitly attack him, but I'm saying this because I know people will.)

Whether or not you like his material, he's still a popular youtuber who certainly has plenty of other videos to make, and he certainly didn't have to do this for us.

There are plenty of reasons not to like the video, yeah. But no need to over-react. He made a disclaimer at the very beggining of the video stating exactly what we are as a community, he's made a thread where he was open and transparent with us about his intentions and his desire to be on good terms with this community.

We can't blame him for not knowing how to RP or not being in-character enough, frankly that's something that should have been organized and taught by the people who brought him into this server, which happened with very little planning AFAIK.

So go easy on him. He's been respectable and patient with us, more so than he needs to be. I myself hopped on the 'hate Gizzy' bandwagon a little too early, and now I'm regretful of it.

tl;dr,

If you don't like the video, I understand. But give Gizzy a chance. This can turn out better for us in the long run.

I agree...

I've been staying away from this situation, but I couldn't even get through the video. I think it was nice of him to include a disclaimer at the beginning, but still...the video in no way showcased the server. The server was just the setting. Nothing about the actual server was shown. Nothing real was done. It was painful to watch.

If someone like that actually made it on to the server, I would be trying to figure out a legit RP reason to excuse myself. I understand he was putting on a show. So, I have nothing to say against HIM. It's just that we don't need those kinds of roleplayers coming around here.

Still, though, I've seen worse on World of Warcraft...

I agree this wasn't what I was expecting, and that it definitely could've been a lot better. However, we all must agree that this video could have been a lot worse than it was. I say we give him a chance, and he will definitely improve over time. Keep in mind this is one of his first medieval roleplays, and that this is one of his first roleplays that is close to being unscripted. Even though there was probably still some sort of script for the ET's, the ET's made this event, not him. I don't know for sure, but I believe Gizzy had no idea what was going to happen and wasn't really sure how to respond. He should still be given a chance, as with everyone.

And plus, weren't a lot of us pretty bad when we first started? Like the others, he will improve as he becomes more familiar with the server and what exactly he should expect.

I sort of agree, sort of don't. We're already getting a tonne of new applicants, and I don't know what to make of it yet.

I agree with what you're saying!

I have nothing negative to say about Gizzy. I don't think his typical type of stuff matches the server, BUT I think he understands that now. Since they made the video, he has come to understand the depth of the server and the true nature of it.

I think if they take some of the suggestions that the community has offered, it would work out better in the long run. However, I think they really, truly need to showcase the server and the true nature of it. Not just make it the setting of a skit comedy.

Yeah, what Leo said.

It wasn't really Gizzy Gazza's fault. It was the staff, it was Scene's, it was everyone who was in contact with him.

And the OP basically said that.

Him not knowing how to RP on LotC is alright-- LotC is kinda different from most other RP mediums. But literally going in blind, without an understanding of what's powergaming, or how the server works, or making him fill out an application, or... Literally anything. Dumb.

Not to mention the fact that it was a completely un-realistic representation of the server. People joining are going to think they will all have their own event everytime they are on-- Which is really far from the truth. You have to make your own RP.

Yeah and as an AT may I just say that the reality is, these new applications really aren't that bad to handle. And they arent' any worse than what we usually have to deal with.

A regular AT deals with at least 1-2 hilariously bad apps per week.
