Bold statement there Harold. Only difference between PvP and Defender default is that the person you impose your RP on gets to choose how it goes... As far as I see it, that's fair, since they don't have a choice on whether you can impose your RP or them or not.

You want to take the time to rob/attack someone, you do it their way, or you don't at all - after all this is a server for everyone's enjoyment, not just one party.

You want to PvP, go attack people who want to PvP back. Otherwise, deal with the RP the other players came to do... it really is simple.

As far as I'm concerned, keep Defender Default.

Why, when someone is attacking you, would they have to do it your way? If it went your way you wouldn't be attacked at all. Staff shouldn't force people to spend more than 10 minutes with someone when they could have it over in less than five minutes, more like it would be in real life. A majority of the server would rather spend their time doing other things than having to deal with people crying in OOC over certain actions or not winning their 'stab straight through the man's heart' roll. RP combat is tolerable when it's with someone you actually want to RP with, I've experience many RP fights on other servers, and when I didn't want to RP with someone it was a headache mixed with an immense amount of boredom. Sure, you can RP fight and roll with people who you are fine with, but forcing a majority of the servers population to have something that they are completely against is not a good thing to do. Sure, PvP is unfair if someone has more gear than you, or is better than you at PvP, but why cry about it? If someone in real life has a knife pointing towards you, you don't get to cry to a higher being about why he didn't give you a knife to fight with. I can only agree against PvP if we're talking about magic, but that is only because there is no way for magic users to demonstrate what they have learned RPly.

You are assuming people are attacked because they were looking for it... I certainly do not agree to use that as a blanket assumption.

You attack someone, at random, or your character doesn't like, for personal or no reason at all - allow it to be on their terms. As far as they are concerned, they did nothing to provoke the attack.

If it is a case of law breaking or raids, the defender is automatically the guardforce, so in those cases, the person you attack was looking for it - and then the guards can choose how to deal with it.

If people prefer to do other things than sit through 10 minutes of RP fighting, then go do other things. Nobody is forcing you to attack anyone! Except if you are a guard, upholding the law or defending the town... In which case it doesn't matter since you get to choose.

The fallacy here is that if you attack someone you are doing it "for no reason" and are "imposing" your roleplay on someone else. Defender default takes into account thieves or murderers being arrested by a guardforce if caught red handed; yet defender default completely fails to take into account justified reasons for attacking someone and oocly labels anybody who wants to attack anybody as a vile aggressor who DESERVES to have a bad experience.

Ex. If Bob murders Sally, and Sally's wife Mike tries to go after Bob to get revenge, Bob is the "defender."

Ex. If Urguan raids Felsen, and some Felsen guards go to Urguan to retaliate, the dwarven military is the defender.

Etc.

Trying to say it's a matter of fairness is stupid. Usually, if someone attacks someone, they have a reason for attacking that specific person. Random banditry is actually quite rare, and it's not necessarily a good thing to make the entire server suffer just to make a bandit's job more difficult.

Edit: Not to mention there are plenty of situations where it is not clear who is the aggressor and who gets to decide the default.

So far defender default hasn't really proved to be of much use to me. When I was stir up trouble either on my human or my Orc, some people just DO NOT like to lose, or don't understand how to RP correctly, so PvP default is a good way of solving the problem, it is a traditional problem solver in orcish roleplay as well. It's hard to keep RP constantly going and getting nowhere and then with the possible chance of a meta squad coming in makes it harder
