Welcome to World Edit! One of the most useful and versatile tool in a builder's arsenal. Though it is formidible, many have failed to utilize it to it's potential! Today I present you Bathrugman's World Edit Guide!

Basic Commands

These commands you should know by heart! Essentially the necessities for basic World Edit usage!

//wand

Summons your world edit tool to you in the form of a wooden axe.

Left click and right click sets your two vertices. World edit assumes the two vertices selected are opposite point of a cube and will treat your selection as such.

//expand (number)

Expands your selection by the number of blocks, in the direction you are looking at.

//expand vert

Expands your selection from bedrock to sky.

//undo

Undoes your last commands. Keep in mind WE forgets your last command if you disconnect or log off.

//redo

Redoes your last command. Keep in mind WE forgets your last command if you disconnect or log off.

//copy

Copies all the blocks in your selection. Keep in mind that the selection is saved based on your position. Ex: If the selection is next to you and you copy it, when pasted it would be the same distance from your avatar.

//cut

Copies all the blocks in your selection but also removes it from the world. Paste your selection by using //paste.

//paste

Pastes your copied selection. Again, empty space is considered a block and will replace blocks.

//paste -a

Pastes your copied selection without pasting the air.

The difference between //paste and //paste -a is the difference between glueing a piece of paper with a picture on it, in a collage, and cutting out the white portions of the paper and glueing it in. One will look better than the other.

//rotate (degrees)

 Rotates your selection clockwise based on your position. Visualize your position as the centre of the circle and your selection as a dot on the edge of the circle. Preferably do it in 90 degree increments (90, 180 etc) as tool will render your selection incomplete.

//flip ((direction East, North etc))

 Mirrors your selection to the direction you enter. Again, this flip is relative to your position (Your position serves as the mirror

//set (material/id) , replaces everything in your selection with x material. The material name is usually it’s MC name, though some materials would need the material id.

//set 0, deletes everything in your selection. Keep in mind empty space IS considered a block which’s data value is 0.

//replace (original material) (material) (replacement material

 Replaces X material with Y material.

//replace (original material) (material)(x%), (material)(x%), (material)(x%), etc

Allows you to replace the original material with a selection of material. One will be able to tweak the percentages.

//overlay (material)

Places material atop your selection.

//regen

Regenerates the region according to the seed ((DO NOT USE UNLESS IN DIRE CIRCUMSTANCES as most of the map is built by hand))

//sphere  <block> <Radius>, //cyl <block> <Radius>, //pyramid <block> <Radius>

Generates a 3d  (sphere, cylinder, pyramid) object The object is generated with your position being the exact middle of it.

//hsphere  <block> <Radius>, //hcyl <block> <Radius>, //hpyramid <block> <Radius>

Does the exact thing as above, but makes it hollow.

Misc:

Miscellaneous commands!

//drain (radius)

Drains water/lava in a set radius. The player must be inside the liquid for it to work

/snow (radius)

Places snow on all nearby surfaces in a set radius.

Movement:

World edit can be used more than just building!

//unstuck

Goes to the first free spot when stuck (block glitch etc)

//ascend

Ascends to the nearest free spot. (2 blocks tall)

//descend

Descends to the nearest free spot. (2 blocks tall)

[!] HOT TIP [!]

When in the presence of a snow elven city, present your wood axe and click on two corners. Which will set your area, then you type in //set air.

This command itself is guaranteed to fix the plight of snow elves for you, this is interchangeable with any other racial capital.

I once saw a man turn a mountain range into skulls all the way down to bedrock. Please update this into the guide.

This method is only for OG Et so don't you get any ideas folks.

//fill

That's one useful fellow too. Perhaps add a section on brushes with masks as well? I know there's a lot of voxel fangirls here but WE's brush is still useful.

Don't forget that WorldEditCUI can SAVE YOUR LIFE. I heavily recommend it as it adds a nice little overlay for your WE selection so you can see what you actually have selected, and is extremely useful for anyone who'e still getting used to remembering where they selected.

Also don't forget //sel, which on it's own removes your selection (very useful for those who do use WorldEditCUI), and it's modifier //sel poly/cuboid. Using a poly selection will let you select things in greater detail when needed. There's also a few others, but for starters poly is plenty complex already.

I like to use //replacenear a lot as well, allowing one to do a //replace command without having to make a selection. Useful for more complex shapes that would require multiple selections (E.G. a cave system where you want to replace the ores with stone. Run through it using //replacenear every so often and you're good to go).

As mentioned above there's //fill (and //fillr) letting you fill in an area you're standing in (WARNING: Think of it as filling a bowl. If there's a hole, there'll be blocks for as far a distance as you specified).

//fixwater is also very useful, allowing you to quickly fix those pesky water issues without having to use a bucket or //drain then //fill.

//move is nice for shifting your selecting in a direction without needing to copy & paste it, so long as it's a straight line.

You also may want to add that when using //flip you can also just face in the direction/axis you want to flip rather than writing it in.

Also for //replace you have the 'Original Material' twice, which may confuse some people. In addition you may want to add a note that using just //replace [material] will replace everything in the selection other than air with the [material].

If I think of anything else I'll let you know. Thanks for putting together this starter guide for those who need it! WE is a powerful tool, especially when one knows even 1/2 of the features.

EDIT: Oh I completely forgot you may want to mention material inks, especially useful ones (Like Log:13+ are 6 sided logs)
