LOTC is going to become action hero bullet dodging skills on fleek. I can't wait.

I would just like to point out that we currently have galleons and other gunpowder-age ships that have catapults and trebuchets on them. Nevermind that tinkers can't really RP anything they make, it seems. Our technology makes no sense because people choose aesthetics over what would've been (or in the case of MC mechanics, is) possible.

Currently, given LotC's technology level, basic gunpowder weapons and even rudimentary matchlocks are absolutely within reason. It seems the primary concerns are "powergaming" (which seems to exist regardless; I could tell you a tale of a man who took a half-durability-no-velocity bow, *tinkers with it, and suddenly it's a crossbow with a grapple hook and a scope) and a progression away from medieval fantasy (i.e. personal aesthetic reasons), which seems a little odd since, like I said, we've pretty much hit every other technological milestone possible, and even ones we shouldn't have without it.

Whereas this would ascend a tinker's usefulness, which they are in desperate need of, I think many will mistake pistols of being powerful weapons that can take someone out in one shot which I foresee causing many more unneeded arguments and difficulties when truth be told, it doesn't really fit the theme of the server. In my opinion, I think it's overall unnecessary.

In all honesty this.

The three things that I consider reasonable in my tinker RP is...

1. The current redstone lore.

2. "**** you I can create the end result with the plugin I can do it in RP." (Mostly bombs)

3. Chucking dumb ideas and thanhium at transfigs until something happens.

I hope for things that could be interesting for tinker/engineering style RP, thats not combat related, could be added in the future to give more opportunities for the RP.

Now addressing the arguments for firearms themselves.

With a brief skim read of the comments it seems the main arguments against are powergaming and A E S T H E T I C S.

Now while I agree with the problem of a firearm getting powergamed the argument of it not fitting aesthetically or going against LOTC's aesthetics is absolute bullshit. The two main problems with the argument of not letting things happen due to aesthetics is aesthetics is a pure choice and does not normally impede on the basic function of what it is and that LOTC has a general lack of a unified and agreed upon aesthetic.

Now with the argument of a "guns" aesthetic not fitting an aesthetic is wrong due to that a "gun" is a tube with a hole in the end of it and something goes out it going really quick. I could have it fire dildos and be shaped like a massive cock but as long as it fits the concept of "Tube that things come out of quickly" its a gun. Aesthetic, by hastily googled definition, is being considered with beauty or the appreciation of beauty (as an adjective) and what the principles of an artist or an artistic movement are. (as a noun)

In this case the "aesthetic" of a "gun" is what whomever is responsible for its relative creation decides it shall look like. If I decide to make it look like it weighs 40+lbs and have a stamp of an orenian faction on it that would be its aesthetic. If I decide to make it look short and stubby with a bunch of north-western European runes allover it then that is its aesthetic. If I want to make it look like it was pounded together by a gorilla on steroids and covered in war paint then that is its established aesthetic. If I want to put extremely unnecessary coverings over it made from finely stained wood thats been carved with random curly cues+round shapes and has a bunch of gold+silver leafing allover it then thats what its gonna ******* look like.

Early firearms were designed to look certain ways by the engineers and the standards of that time with wood furniture and brass fittings. Modern firearms are designed to look certain ways by the engineers and the standards of this time with molded polymer, unnecessary amounts of mounting points, and patterns of holes.

Now with the aesthetic of LOTC it honestly lacks one to the point where you can insert anything and it will eventually find its fit. The racial cultures are decided by the players of that race and the nation leaders that are responsible for the cities and laws and that is something that constantly changes. Even the "set in stone" racial lores have slowly changed over time. Each race is supposed to be responsible for hugely different aesthetics with the elves having their own extreme divide between the sub-races. The Orks cover the war hungry tribals, Dwarves short nords, and Humans feudal Europe. Light factions have their own aesthetic of bright primary colors and white and the dark factions are straight grim dark. Then theirs the characters that have somehow moved away from the cultures and walk around doing whatever they want to immune to whats written on the wiki's, what the NL's say is right, and what other players want. Any one could walk up to a transfig and say "Make my clothes glow with some mage light, heres an emerald and some thanhium, make it happen." And if the transfig agrees you just pulled off a tron aesthetic that abides by lore. If the majority of the wood elves decide to burn the forests and build a giant pantheon atop the ashes then thats the new woodelven aesthetic and jack **** can be done about it.

LOTC's staff and lore barely effects the aesthetic of LOTC and saying something shouldn't happen because aesthetic is a **** reasoning. The aesthetic is YOUR aesthetic and saying to not implement something because it doesn't fit YOUR ideal aesthetic is saying to; "Get rid of it because I don't like it." Their isn't enough definition in LOTC to say jack **** on anything on an aesthetic.

The staff  have never listened to the majority community opinion, why start now?
