Should technologically "old" and limited firearms be allowed for roleplay?

Firearms are ppwwrgamed bows and crossbows. But if people already powergame bows and crossbows, what would firearms even be?

My opinion about this idea is a clear no. We have enough guards who pull out fully loaded crossbows from their back and fore, bow users who fire in two emotes without aiming whatsoever. This'll be one of those things everyone and their mother carry in their pockets and pull out a McRee and shoot after an emote of pulling out. Please no.

Even though the reloading takes perhaps longer to nock another arrow in the bow or set a bolt in a crossbow, this will juw be a "*pulls out of pocket. *shoots. "K d/40" type of weapon. And there will always be that one Edvard Kenne-something guy who has eight or ten guns somewhere in his clothes.

Wouldn't fit with the theme. You have swords, bows n' stuff. Then there is just a gun being held but a full iron-clad knight. Seem right to you? No.

No. No. No.

Yes some fantasy settings might have firearms, but this does not fit into LOTC at all.

And there is no reason to put them in, what are you missing that firearms will bring you.

" without having a greater advantage over everyone else. "

Silliest thing ive read.

And for my 2 cents it doesnt fit the theme really.

I'd be alright with firearms and other time-period-related innovations, but only if they were added organically and not just "These are allowed now."

I'm voting yes because I want to see it someday, just not shoehorned in.

I honestly love the idea of the old magic folks being caught up to by technology, and causing some disparity between magic and non-magic people as their power difference slowly ceases to exist.

I also like the idea of roleplaying an ancient Druid who's spooked by all this new technology. Really drive home the different worlds.

Wood Elves that seem backwards compared to the newest innovations, who kept their culture and ways intact despite technology's advance.

I want this stuff! But a slow trickle of technology developing overall, not just firearms being injected in small doses.

"muh theme"

we have steam boats

we have laser cannons

we have 30 varieties of giant stone robots

we have (probably more than) 30 varieties of magic catered to specific player groups

just give me a server with flintlock weaponry and i'll be happy please

it's like an angry child picking up a buzz lightyear figurine and throwing it out of his playbox because it doesn't look like his transformers or micky mouse enough tbh

Oh please. It isn't even time for firearms. Where are the damn rockets, fire lances? Why are we jumping to firearms? Why even firearms and not some different technology? Why not something unique and novel? This is not a historical story and so we have no obligation at all, none, to even consider firearms. We can develop airplanes before gunpowder.

and the entire damn point of this game is immersion. Immersion means the very reason people play.

Also like, expanding on what the below said, imagine a magic user without half of the restrictions. I'm not against it in the future but firearms would seem out of left field and shoehorned in.

The difference is that magic is a genre catered to by staff, while technological development and progress has been stymied by the bourgeois.

Exactly, and I like arquebuses and so on, why can't we have them if it is just another addition to the fantasy, integrated with a magical type origin, such as runes or something more accessible.

Not everything needs to be magical.

Someone thinking that it doesn't suit the server, or the theme, or even simply dislikes the idea of fire-arms, is a genuine and valid opinion. The meme of 'muh theme' is funny to a point, now the banter is already stale and it's barely been a day.

To solve the Edward Kenway issue, we could make guns only matchlocks.

(I'm neither for or against guns, but I think cuirassiers would be ******* badass)

Also please read the OP before saying "Ur going to bring flintlocks and 17th-18th century guns :C"

But LoTC isn't WoW

You'd be suprised on how closely the Orcs resemble WoW Orcs.

I say we try it, the time is moving in LotC, and if they do not work,

we can always remove 'em.

No for the sake of how prominent people incorrectly RPing Bows/Crossbows is already a huge problem and this would only further render swordsmanship useless - alongside quite likely rivalling some magic.

To be fair, magic should be rivaled.

the way it should be in my opinion is:

Mage beats Warrior

Archer beats Mage

Warrior beats Archer

Having a sharpshooter would trump everyone realistically. Obviously that's all situational however.
