As the Elder Halfling woke one morning, his daily routine had already kicked into full swing, he had gotten dressed, smoked his pipe, meditated for some time before being thrown off by the sounds of birds chirping and other Halflings walking along the paths. The routine remained unchanged for years, it was peaceful, relaxing, but yet Larry felt bored, something had changed in the Halfling. The fire that had once pushed him to act had been extinguished, his motivation to pursue his dreams were lost in a rough sea.

As he ate his second breakfast, the usual menu of eggs with a family secret ingredient Larry thought of his young life, the adventures he had taken, the people he had met and the different sections of the land that he had explored. For the first time in quite a while Larry felt sad, properly sad at the realization at just how boring and dull he had become.

As Larry cleaned his plate he made a rather radical decision, one that maybe no one saw coming.

“Lads and Lasses!” he shouted from the bridge outside the tavern.

The music had stopped, the short folk all seemed to move toward the bridge and most of the farm animals even halted and listened to the Elder talk.

“I ‘ave decided I will step down as Elder! This is no’ ‘cause I don’ like doin’ i’, i’s ‘cause I wan’ ye te thrive withou’ me! I am goin’ te take a trip away from Reedsborough, I need a differen’ ou’look on life! Me burrow can be filled by a new’un fam’ly and ye may take wha’ ye like from i’!” the now former Elder shouted.

As the crowd remained quiet, Larry sighed for a moment as he looked to the wood under his feet.

“I don’ know ‘ow long I will be gone, I jus’ know I will be gone fer a while! If ye birds are smar’ and strong enough ye will be able te fin’ me, ‘owever I may no’ wan’ te be foun’. When I return I don’ expec’ a par’y, I expec’ ye te be doin’ better off than when I was still ‘ere.” he said as he lifted his bindle, a slight creak could be heard from the man's knees as he bent.

As Larry spoke, one may have noticed a glisten in his eye, a small tear had formed as he said his goodbye.

“See’ye ‘roun’ every’un! I’ll be ‘ome before ye know i’!” he said as he turned on his heels, and without another word he was off. None of the Halflings spoke for a time, not within range of Larry hearing anything. He didn't want to be deterred by what he considered family rather than just his race.

Larry paused for but a moment at the far end of the large farm, grabbing a handful of wheat, smelling it before placing it in his bindle to remind him of his family.

“There is no place like ‘ome...” he said with a short sigh as he stood up straight and hobbled off, his small frame soon fading away into the distance.

I have decided to take a break from lotc as I am just not enjoying it as much as I once was, I will however be back like I said in the post, I just don't know when yet. Cheers everyone.

"Another halfling I always hear of." The Red Uruk sighed, raising the cactus green to his mouth, taking a bite. "I sure do hope to meet you, we could have a drink, ey?"
