I think the fact that they now need special approval while wands and staves do not is pretty telling about how much of a change these things actually are (compared to how they were presented in their lore as providing no additional benefit). They don't fit well in LotC.

Honestly I mean. It sucks, but when people abuse something then rules need to be put in place. When people are mass producing these things and treating them like actual guns, with rapid fire attachments, then it needs to start being moderated. 

 

I mean, there's a few reasons guns have never previously been allowed, and this is one of them. Beyond simply not fitting with the theme of LotC (which they really don't), they're bound to be abused.

Why do guns and rifles belong in a medieval fantasy setting? Could anyone elaborate? If you can't, then it's because they don't belong.

They're effectively just wands with triggers, and need to be treated as such. Not saying anyone here is wrong, but maybe instead of putting in place nonsensical rules it'd be better to just have a guide written? Whoever is treating it like an IRL firearm needs a firm slap on the hand, but it's really not hard to keep the damned things balanced.
