Holding the Sword and Quill in Tandem

A man steps forwards, his lanky form adorned in plates and an ornate mask. His hands clasp before him, the spindly cracks that course down his mask all too noticeable, giving a faint hint to the pallid flesh beneath the polished steel.

“For far too long have we stood in the shadow of progress, we haven’t basked in the glory of old and we haven’t had the will to move forward. I, Cahir aep Ophael, step forth as a potential claimant for this position.”

The figure tilts his mask up to face those gathered before him, a scribe standing and scribbling on a sheet of papyrus close by.

“It is not you that deserves the scorn for this neglect, this crazed frenzy as fanaticism overrules common sense. It is the degenerate that is to blame, the man or woman who dresses just as we do but bathes in putrid gold. Those who upset the balance of our fair city and disrupt it on a whim, they are characterized by their own drive to act in their own self-interest. They do not think of me, they do not think of you, they believe they surpass our ethics and standards because we have taught them that hard work is a thing of the past. Do you blame a civilized man for extending mercy to those who feel oppressed? I would think not, but these are times of great upheaval and we cannot ignore it any longer.”

“The military has suffered in the hands of the bureaucracy as once again our ethic dies. Health cannot be maintained if our people are slain by villains garbed in black, raiders from foreign territories, non-elves and other ikru who do not acknowledge our keenness of the mind. Nonetheless, our society has spanned many centuries but we remain characterized by the flaws of our ancestors. We strive backwards rather than forwards, our government bipedals and works commonly towards the interests of the few who benefit from this perverse slowness, this lethargy. I am here to tell you that it shall not happen again. I am here to tell you that the bureaucracy will not characterize the military anymore in my hands, and that should I be elected Okarir’tir I will ensure that the common elf is provided for and safeguarded from the horrors of the foreign world. You do not need to be dominant to make a show of strength and ultimately it is up to our discretion how we behave. We must exhibit strength, thoughtfulness, and ingenuity if we are to survive. That is how our health will be maintained, that is how we shall escape the chaos of the past, that is how we shall move forward in this Modern Era.”

“With my hands I have built a lasting paramilitary, the Arbiters are trained well to uphold the Silver Law and preserve our culture. By shedding the shackles that have tethered us to past glories for so long we can at last know that victory will be in our grasp.”

His voice rises and falls as he speaks, his plated form immensely still as his gaze remains centered on the assorted citizens. Some military men nearby quietly chattered amongst themselves for a moment before refocusing on the speaker.

“I have made my paramilitary stronger than the primary force we have in one seed, I have trained our forces so that we might have this opportunity to strike fast. This has been done for you, the people, and the glory of the Uthir. This has been done to preserve our society and destroy the decadence that rests at its rotten core. I have experience with the sword and quill in equal measure, I am both a diplomat and soldier. I am a warrior who has bolstered his forces to preserve what truly matters to us -- Maehr’sae Hiylun’ehya.”

“The crimes of the past shall be washed away and our purity kept in tandem with values of today, not yesterday. I pledge this to the Mother Land, I pledge this to the people that make this country great.”

Cahir salutes the audience, his arm crossing up his chest as his mailed fingers ball into a fist.

“Let a new day dawn, let’s step forth from the abyss and claim what’s rightfully ours.”

Sif stood observing the speech in between groups of Arbiters and citizens alike, joining the company of neither. "My blade stands with the man of Maehr'sae Hiylun'ehya over the man that simply seeks another bout of power. My blade stands with you, Cahir..."

Mercer chuckles a bit upon hearing the news of the 'Aheral revolt against the Empire. "I suppose the Imperial Legion should have kept stationed at their city."

Cahir gets confused. There is no revolt. It's an election speech.

Cahir blinks. He wonders how an election speech was interpreted as a revolt. The after party was certainly not a riot.

"The only thing I've seen these Arbiters do so far is disturb the peace." Syrina states into her mirror as she tends to her hair. "Could hear their chattering at the gate all the way within my home."
