So after 28-3-17's restart at 5 am gmt+1, I keep getting a message that I cannot join the server because I am using a VPN

 

Funny thing is, I do not have a VPN.

Things I tried:

Restarting Minecraft.

Restarting PC

Restarting Router

Releasing/Renewing IPConfig

Reinstalling Minecraft

Trying to connect to another router

Restarted that router

Completely reinstalled windows and formatted my SSD & HDD drives. (Last resort and don't worry, I made a back up of my files, aint st00pid.)

I have no problem with connecting to other server's, LOTC is just doing /stuff/

It's really a network problem, I tried logging in on another account and I got kicked aswell

So I tried to fight fire with fire and set up a VPN.
I tried to connect and it works! So... wtf.

On a serious note it screws up my buddy list and displays him as logging out before he even logs in!!!!

It's done this to him time, and time again. On different times of the day on different days completely. If it was a GM doing it they had to be very consistent and very diligent. Kicking happens instantly in terms of buddylist. As soon as he logs 'off' he logs 'in'. One of those "Please stop trying" situations when it floods your chat log.

While I have no answers, I think disallowing VPNs is a bad thing. While they're obviously used for alting, a number of people use them for pretty legitimate reasons (like not being DDoSed). I hope this isn't a step the server is taking, as VPNs have uses outside the context of our server and catching people alting is, by and large, not that important.

from the looks of it, it might be some plugin that's borked if we even have one of those, because the only other related issue is someone on some other server having the same exact error and the server owner said it was a plugin the server was using.

It's weird how it would kick in so suddenly, but a plug in issue makes sense. 

 

I'm not sure how long he had been online prior to the issue; we'd been rping at least 4 hours before the restart came, and then poof.

I have been online since the restart before it and after the '5am' restart the issue started

I tried connecting to some of the biggest MC server's around

 

And they all work for me, except LOTC

I do believe Teegah fixed it by removing an old plugin. Time will tell!
