The final moments of Ser Aeternius, 1635

The battle had raged for hours, the castle Aeternius stood upon had been reduced to rubble on the western side, but still he remained, for it was his duty to remain with his subordinates to the end. The knight had come to terms that this was no longer a winning battle, but still he remained firm - he would have himself an honorable death, he thought to himself. His engineers had all been killed alongside their destroyed equipment, he could no longer afford to divide his troops to protect the gates and had to constantly worry about flying winged soldiers releasing vials of explosive fire upon their heads. Despite all these hardships, the Imperial Fieldmarshal remained stoic, possessed with the same dogged determination he bore all his life.

A breach had been made near his position, and so he relocated his personal retinue to hold against the oncoming tide of enemy troops; but it appeared that the foreign invaders had been the superior force on that day, and drove true through the breach, cutting down a-plenty in their path. The invaders had seen the battle standards of Aeternius’ party, and knew he was the one tasked with the defense of the castle and so renewed their charge.

Attempting to compete with multiple enemies at once did not bode well for the Fieldmarshal - he was driven through by a spear, had the tendons of his right knee sliced, and was finally finished off after a wicked swing of a sword found his throat. He was thrown aside as the rest of Coalition forces rushed past to finish off the remaining defenders. For but a brief moment Aeternius had a moment to think about his life, his proudest moments, greatest achievements, he accomplished many tasks worthy of note, and so satisfied, his eyes shut close for the final time.

And so, a man considered to be a founding father of the Sextus Imperium had passed.

The Norlandic Pup, still early in her training had attended the battle with fear in her heart. Bow in hand and quiver on her back, Elle had shot relentless arrows at the fort, stopping only when her arm could draw the bow's string back no longer. She survived the battle without having been wounded, and while she never saw Aeternius meet his demise, she knew the Orenians had been altogether defeated on that day. Upon returning to Norland, she said a quiet prayer to the All-Father for all of the lost souls, heathen and believer alike.

*A feeling of old age sets itself upon Lionel Amador as he reads the obituary* "Another good man taken before his time, may GOD watch over his soul."
