A False Crown

Emelie Frederika allowed the letters to flow across Atlas.

“Linete was born on a farmstead as a peasant woman. Her sultry ways lured my brother into her bed, and she claimed that throne beside him. He disappeared for some time, whilst she enjoyed the luxuries of royalty. When his death became known, the time for grieving was not had. Linette seized the throne for herself, and the country fell apart. She is not a Devereux, ladies and gentlemen. She has no right to sit on that throne and shatter the state into pieces. And yet the government was threaded with her weasels and vipers, and she claimed sovereignty with ease. Linette is a usurper. Esme is undead. Alfred is dead. And here I am, disowned by a woman who is not family. For the act of true marriage to a nobleman, respectful and true. I value the union I share with my husband, something Linette never did. She held her husband, my brother, for one reason… vain ambition. I speak now to tell the truth. My family has been broken and I fear that without intervention, Curon and Devereux will die. Linette must resign from her throne. She must have her crown stripped away. Black-hearted creatures corrupt our streets... nobles and peasants alike are shot at and killed from the rooftops and the assassins still live. The military has fallen far from any glory under my father. Behind the walls of our palace, Linette spits on the name of the Church and the Order of Saint Lucien for their insolent interruptions of her reign. She is not a godly woman. The mantle of Curon has been spat on and humiliated by the government's inactive and stagnant policies... A blind man could see how ugly my home has become. Alfred was a good sovereign. My father was a good duke."

"A Devereux must rule Curon; not an ambitious harlot.”

"Good." - Count Eimar commented as he read his newly gained vassals missive "We shall of course, support our vassals to ensure their safety in the face of such a tyrant as Linette." He finished with a nod

"Esme was burned alive yesterday." She tells the people.

"Down with that false Harlot, she deserves nothing more than to switch places with her fallen husband."  Tara spat on the ground, visibly disgusted with the truth of Linette.

"Don't forget about my father who was the first to point this logic out, and to the public after his trial that was poorly done. Now put Prince Alfred's son Wilhelm as ruler, and Emmet Devereux as Regent!." Arnaud would cry out

“You go girl!” Leila cheers, standing by her sister-in-law as she speaks to the crowd. “Rubens women are better and stronger, you should be glad you’ve escaped from that bunch.”

Victoria looks over the missive, her features turning to pure distaste as she finished the last few lines.

"Did this 'Linette' really do this? Is it apart of the art of seizing power to disown your wronged kin?"

She'd toss the missive into her hearth, where so many more papers had once burned before, annoyed and scowling.

"Linette was only a peasant who was brought up by Prince Alfred. She has claimed the throne without having a funeral for Prince Alfred and decided not to take into Regency of Curon until Prince Wilhelm I of House Devereux was of age. This woman is a usurper and a spoiled harlot who has grown very ambitious throughout the years. Arnaud would reply

"It seems even the church have become mere puppets to the Kingdom of Renatus, these false accusations are only to fuel another war for this dishonorable war mongering nation." Adelard would say, shaking his head in dissaproval.

Victoria would perk a brow at the man who was yelling at her from outside, but she accepted the information he provided with a few nods.

Aragon reads the written post. He leans back in his marble chair in the Wardens hall of Arbor. He would hear Ser Magnus's outcry "Magnus calm yourself. Esme is far from undead, we checked ourselves by cutting her arm with a golden blade with her permission. The rest of this however, Arbor shall not get involved. I swore oaths to the two former Princes to preserve the peace in Curon, so thereby it is in everyone's interest that this issue be resolved peacefully, and without the movement of armies. The rightful prince will soon be of age, so that should solve the issue, for now at least I think that slinging insults and dividing ourselves helps no one. I think calling someone ungodly, and calling someone undead who is clearly not undead, helps nothing. Let us open a dialogue between all the people, and perhaps come up with a solution to the problems ahead of us."

Véres Draskovits rolled his eyes upon reading the missive.

"Linette is the Matriach of the House of Devereux, as she married His Highness, the former Prince of Curon, Alfred I Cyril of the House of Deverux. She has full authority over the members of the House, whether she is related by blood or not. Her actions were not that of an usurper, and were fully justifiable. Let us stop this foul talk."
