[Community Review] Heists

Recommended Posts

Hello LOTC! This is a follow up to this post, regarding the [Your View] posted on heists. Wolf is now on hiatus and after speaking with him I will be carrying out the next phase of this project to make sure it still moves forward. Shout out and a big thank you to all of the work he has put into this system so far and the feedback he has gone through and commented on. This is a slightly tweaked draft coming up for community review. Our hope is that we can provide an outlet for more types of villain roleplay that will bring excitement and diversity to robbing someone. By extension of doing this, we hope that all players, including both staff and community members, will be aware of the impact this system might have on the server and that they will give us feedback on this current draft and what they think of it.

Please keep in mind that this is in no way the final draft of heists; unless for some reason it gains an immense amount of support this time around. This is something that we are going to be actively working on and watching after the fact so if you like how it is on paper, but not in practice once it is implemented speak up listing what you would like changed and we can look at it again for minor hot-fixes. There are no plans to lock this system in once it is approved, but instead to develop it out as we learn from actually implementing and doing heist rp.

Is there any way we could word things better? Did we miss anything that you think should be included? These are all example questions you can ask yourself and comment down below with what you think! The current heist system can be found on this google doc. Please keep in mind that this is not implemented onto the live server and you cannot apply for heists yet. After we receive feedback from the community we will go back and add, tweak, or remove the things that you all comment on and from there it will go for final stages of approval before implementation by the admins.

You can either leave a comment below with your feedback and ideas or you can head over to the LOTC Discord and leave your feedback in the #community-review-heists text channel. Hopefully this system for heist can be an improvement and welcomed addition to the server!

remove having chests somehow become unlockpickable after an arbitrary amount of rolls and allow people to steal as much **** as they can.  it creates dynamic RP, and having some skygod powers preventing people from being able to take make believe items from chests is an useless rule that encourages this pixel hoarding crap going on.  all that it does is create an entitled mentality and inhibit roleplay, such as playing as a thief-type character.  if you lose your pixels, have your imaginary character hire some kid playing a pretend bounty-hunter and conduct an investigation on the virgin scum who wasted their time and stole some wacky artifacts.

Is it not pixel hoarding to want the ability to take as much as you want? Cause that sounds like pixel hoarding to me.

having stuff sit in a chest for months on years untouched seems more prone to being called hoarding than taking something with the potential of using it for yourself, selling/fencing, or creating more dynamic RP.

at least if items moved around there is the potential for them to be used or involved in roleplay, whereas if they are stuck in a box they'll never amount to much of anything

1. How do you get chain armour

2. What prevents me from going Az'adar and build corridors filled with iron doors to prevent access to where I keep my valuables?

Yeah no. Heists are imo meant for stealing important RP items, stuff you may need, or stuff you can easily get hard mina on. Coming in and stealing all **** left and right because "HURR I CAN DO NOW WAT I WANT AND I WILL SPEND 2 HOURS LOCKPICKING EVERY LITTLE CHEST" is down right stupid. 6 slot cap? Okay I would say 10 slot cap per person would be better, but still, it's meant to be steal and run, and not "Bring wagon with cow, twenty backpacks per person and one dragon with attached carrying bag" for heist.

*Walks out of someone's house carrying three tones of items, putting them on top of a cow wagon with all his other heist pals, whistles down for dragon to take rest of heavy stuff, and then walks back in to carry out yet another oversized chair for his nice house in mountains where he can sip his cocoo.*

shulker boxes aren't a thing in LotC, so its not as if every item will be taken.  the only reason why I can see someone clinging to not wanting to lose their amateur worded flavor items is that they feel an entitlement to them just like many feel an entitlement to their characters.  it's already bad enough that goons can wack you with left mouse button to take your pixels to put into chests and will never see RP again, but don't deny the fact that people are stagnating potential dynamic RP

Oh you are right. Just yesterday I was actually considering PKing my char despite a lot of time spent out into him, but it was all based on LT decision as it involved magic. But I met many people that killed properly irp or PvP they will not kill their char at no possibility.

The goon stealing part is a good point. Thus why I opt for 10 items to be taken so you can steal back your equipment. But remember that bad part - they will be the one to abuse this system more than normal people. And that is why I like the balance kept to not let any bandits overuse the stuff.

1. Something we look to implement when this goes live. Details on how to actually get it haven't been decided on yet.

2. There is a section talking about lines of iron doors for the purpose of making rolling to get through all of them near impossible. You can find a screenshot to it here!

I was more so referring to a subtler version. EG, a set of rooms each connected with an iron door, each furnished proper with a function but arranged so that it technically functions as a corridor of iron doors.

Az'adar was the example due to their maze & concealment of the runesmith altar.
