On running and rulechanges

As many of you know, recently, the rule regarding running from rp was changed, in that you have to revive a person after downing them for running, and that you can only pop them if they run again. I feel like the rule is quite stupid, to tell you the truth, and here’s why:

A GM told me that the reason for this rule change was pvp goons doing lacklustre emotes at people running by, and then popping them for not stopping, or stopping too late. This, honestly, can be fixed quite easily by the GM team putting their foot down and handing out villainy blacklists for such behavior. I don’t think this will be fixed by making a ridiculous, and ill specified rule to combat this supposed issue.

  1. The rule is badly clarified: Nowhere does it state what happens after the player is downed. RP continues, yes, but it doesn’t state how it continues. Does the downing player chose HOW rp continues? I.E. can we emote knocking the person out? The rule also doesn’t say if players who have been knocked out can just run again, despite RPly being unable to.
  2. If this rule is to take away power from pvp goons to do bad villainy roleplay, then you’re sorely mistaken. This just leads to giving these supposed pvp goons and bandits the ability to cause trouble in a city, and then run back to their own places, where their allies can help them and prevent their death. In my belief, this should fall under raidbaiting, but GMs have stated they think otherwise. Not to mention, if you manage to make it anywhere close to a base you can enter, it’s very easy to midrp pop a quick running emote while your opponent is typing and make it inside, thus saving your skin.

If I may advise something, scrap this rule, and tighten rules on chasing from rp. This just leads to people being able to guide people to different locations where they can be more easily ambushed, not to mention, makes encounters twice as long as they have to be. If you want to run, risk being killed, as you would be rply if you ran.

This rule is unneccesary, and if anything, allows people to avoid rp, instead of making sure no bad rp happens.

This is a problem that’s been a problem for a very long time. I honestly dont give a **** on how its clarified, I just want it clarified in general.

Yeah when i’m in bad rp and i might actually get punished i need two attempts to bail from rp while other people are typing, otherwise i actually might need to face drawbacks or negative rp.

This helps so much because now i can be as much of a bad person as i want and frick the guards, man, i’ll just run-  what’re they gonna do, they have to let me.

Everyone’s rp experience is increased by this rule that can’t possibly be made negative whatsoever, it is a purely good rule! also, the fact you can start pvp before the countdown ends with no drawback is a great rule, because i can’t win if the tables are fairly set, and i need rule-approved underhanded tactics in order to assert my absolute dominance.

The bandits are going to abuse whatever rules you make or change. The question is, “how easy is it to abuse these rules?” Them running off to avoid consequences is one thing, but giving them the power to basically kill anyone they happen to see after they shout halt is stupid. Yeah, I read what you said about villainy blacklists, but you must be new if you think that the GM’s are capable of putting their foot down in any capacity. You’re basically suggesting to go from annoying to hell on earth without knowing it.

Because people who bandit on their characters are the only people who do scummy **** on lotc. Grrr grr grr pvp goons. I'm a squeaky clean rper and I can’t imagine anyone but toxikkk pvpers breaking rules. :^) I don’t actually want to contribute to the conversation and find a way to improve the rules for everyone on the server. I just want to be self-righteous and bash on the blanket term for everyone who's ever been mean to me in rp.

Come to the conversation without this mindset then the server can start improving for the community as a whole.

You should absolutely have to revive people after they run from you. I don’t know why you think you should be allowed to pop someone just because they don’t respond to your RP.

Say I honestly just don’t notice your emote, because it’s ambiguous who you were talking to, I wasn’t paying attention, or I wasn’t in range and you thought I heard you. Why should you be allowed to kill me in any of these three cases? Why should I be punished just because you want some of my items, because you’re too pusillanimous to chase me?

staggering amount of entitlement in this thread. maybe approach RP with the mindset that other players are trying to have a fun time

The only monkeys who’ve popped someone instantly when they run from RP aren’t even ******* bandits. @oblivionsbane

Its not because we take your precious RP items that we always break rules.

Speaking of VBs, if a white knight comes to us, and does **** RP, I don’t see them getting a “Whiteknight Blacklist”. And that’s retarded

if you think this is an RP server, make it so that running from RP is illegal

Okay so I'm gonna speak from my expirience when banditing as I have personaly been doing it almost since the beggining of this map so I'd say I've seen the good and bad of banditing but to start of, if you do not notice my emote when you're all alone running on the roads then either you're running around in F1 which then if I down you without the knowladge of it. To me it would look like you were just making a run for it so it would seem rightful to down you and pop you only if you run again and if you just don't notice it, it's your problem, not mine.

Secondly, it's often hard for a bandit to specify who he wants to halt as by the time you type out a player's RP name or whatever other specification you wish, your target is already too far away and catching up to them is not always easy or sometimes possible.

Thirdly, the "I wasn't in range" can be a viable argument but most of the time the halting emote is done in /s so that takes care of most of the issues but if you are still out of range, most of the time the bandit can emote once more to make sure you heard it which most of the time will be the case because rarely are you gonna chase somebody who is already 60 blocks away
