“To Mister Demetrius de Montelliano,

With sorrow do I write you this missive and with great need do I wish to address the feelings of discontent you have expressed in the spirit of this present predicament. Undeniable is the common sentiment we both hold for the Golden City of Ves, for the people who dwell and labor in it, and the spirit of human liberties it exudes.

What is apparent now is the denunciation that your conscience has moved you to express. I wish to extend my insights to your letter and help share my thoughts with you with the citizens of Ves and our brothers in arms against the Pertinaxi pretenders as my witness. Now is not the day to betray the great denizens of Adria. We cannot place great risk to the fragility of unity that exists in these times. The very nature of Ves is one that is built upon the ideals of a mutual love, a spirit of free will, upholding the Rule of Law, and sustaining the virtue of the people.

I express my candor and admonition to your denunciation, for it betrays the very ideals with which you claim to associate. This very act represents an allegiance not to the noble values of Ves but a blind and misguided loyalty to a regime that has done nothing but spread deceit, violence, fear, and oppression, a visible opposition to what Ves hails. Let us not forget where the sacking of Ves had truly begun -- from the Pertinaxi tyranny that held anyone in contempt for opposing their will, like that of Marius whom you charge with abandonment in Ves’ time of need.

You defend Ves as a bastion of the people and stand for such notions. Be steadfast! Discern what is right! A unilateral denunciation like that you have decided to convey is a clear breach of Ves’ ideals. Ves, like all others, has a right to self-determine. Its city assembly hark in support of freedom from Pertinaxi lies.

I say to you, if you follow down this unrighteous path, it is neither GOD nor any man who has abandoned Ves in her time of need. No, sir. It is you.

I urge you in this time of great strife: Let the love of freedom and fraternity reign supreme.

Yours sincerely,

Upon the day of our Lord GOD,

18th HARREN’S FOLLY 1715

Joseph I, Holy Orenian Emperor”

“Can you write me too? Man, you won’t believe the stuff I’m about to cook up.” Waldemar hoped the Pretender would pen him a letter too. One day.

Demetrio saves this letter in his office, planning to write a response to it once his horrid headache subsided.
