Rig 17591 Share Posted September 30, 2019 A RESPONSE TO ORENIAN “CONVICTION” AND SER JOHN DE BALAIN, VICEROY OF THE HOLY ORENIAN EMPIRE When I was a young boy, my father told me of the words of Aurelius. Told to him in turn by his Father. “If you wish for peace, then you must make ruthless war”. This missive from the De Balain fellow, father of the man who mocked Edvard’s corpse as he bled out in my own throne room. Is nothing but the height of cowardice. How dare you call us to this war, prompt my soldiers to die avenging the death of your man. Then, like a child stung mildly, put forth this mewling missive to the harshly thrashed foe. You beg and offer concessions when you should be making demands. You are lucky the Lord Protector is not such a foolish man. We know these savages are incapable of peace. Just decades ago they beat their chest and thought themselves equal to mankind. Yet when reality rose with the sun they turned tail, burning their own city to the ground rather than face the terrible wroth of humanity on the march. Now, when they mistakenly deem humanity they pounce. And so quickly they are proven wrong. These animals, this race of primitive savages dwelling amongst the rocks, sticks and leaves of the unwanted corners of the world. They shall, with all their beastial cunning lurk at the margins. Like starving wolves, nay dogs. They lack the nobility of the wolf. And at each moment of weakness, each vulnerability. They shall lunge, again and again. In Morsgrad. When confronted with a mad dog. You put it down. The peace has been broken. These arboreal rubes speak of marching on Haelun’or. Land of the Aeldar, our allies. Yet you speak now of peace. Of allowing those who would harm the glory of humanity to slink away in the night, surrendering a few trifling sacrifices? You speak of “cruel overreaction” in reference to just and sensible war. De Balain, I name you a coward and a dimwit. Perhaps some time in a monastery would suit you well whilst better men take to the field. The Fae have broken the peace and have forced my people to war, the second time they have done so in living memory. There will not be a third. Let us salt the earth, burn the cities and slaughter their pathetic tribal warriors. Let our wrath echo in the memories of their spawn for untold centuries. As for the allies of these up-jumped fairies. You have committed to making war against humanity. You knew the history of mankind. There is a reason you cling to the far corners of the world. Perhaps if you come on bended knee, bearing worthy tribute you shall be spared. For then it will be made clear to us, that you know your place. May the Lord have mercy on us all. Signed, Duke Godric Edvardsson
BenevolentManacles 2232 Share Posted September 30, 2019 John sips quietly from his glass of wine, turning this missive in his hand. He bobs his head as he examines the piece point by point, snapping the fingers of his free hand. A gentle sigh comes from the other side of the room as his young son, Alexander, brings him his quill to pen a response; “Duke Godric, I loathe to think you are so oppositional to my personage that we should both say the same thing in two different ways, yet mine is cowardly by lack of harshness. You speak with great ferocity, and conviction, a conviction I relish and respect. Yet, you mistake me if you think I call you to do anything for my sake. I speak my belief, which is that to be vehement and wanton in the giving of offense and destruction of people is not an example of strength, but rather a weakness of reason and largely a lazy effort to galvanize people through hatred. Why bother ourselves with the effort of hating such minuscule ants as those who oppose us? I invite you to treat with me sometime, I relish the opportunity to drink with a man so harsh of tone and ideal. They are often the finest of drunks.” Ser John de Balain

((that would require something that most LOTCers don’t have, originality)) ((For your information is the following: There is a dispute still as to who burnt down the Capital Alderyn. The Wood Elves tried to raze it to stop people from getting it, but Admins/Devs did not do it in time, so when the High Elves arrived the city still existed and they took it. The build was deconstructed. For the person, namely @FunkyBunch101 who decided to leave a comment on this thread which was removed not long ago.
