NOBILITY OF THE EMPIRE

On this day, We do hereby charter the beloved households of the realm who are considered to be ennobled by Our grace. All those of noble rank are due fealty to their Emperor, the sovereign, and to remain loyal and obedient to the Crown and state. They shall enjoy the privileges of such status, and are commanded to exclusively marry within their class, and adhere to the rightful order of precedence in all conveyance of their duties at Our court.

By Our grace, this charter shall remain up-to-date by writ of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, and shall remain comprehensive in its encompassing of the entire Imperial state.

The ranks of the aristocratic families are enumerated as follows, in descending order as to their prestige, precedence and rank within the Empire.

Imperial nobility denotes the ruling Imperial house, of the highest prestige and bloodline.

Ancient nobility denotes those bloodlines who were ennobled prior to the destruction of the Third Empire in 1467. It also includes those bloodlines (In the case of a cadet) who had a patrilineal, legitimate parent house ennobled at this time. On account of this deadline, ancient nobility is a fixed status - houses may only ascend or descend within this category. Within this, there are three ranks, in descending order:

  1.  Great houses who rule over a significant territory such as a royal realm.
  1.  Peers who hold a peerage through baron to duke.
  1.  Gentry who are of noble stock but hold no peerage.

Lettered nobility denotes those bloodlines who were ennobled subsequent to the destruction of the Third Empire in 1467, after the modernizing of recording systems under the Savoyards and later the Johannian empire. Accordingly, they are of inherently lesser prestige than ancient nobility. On account of this deadline, lettered nobility is a fixed status - houses may only ascend or descend within this category. Similarly, they have three ranks within them, in descending order:

  1.  Great houses who rule over a significant territory such as a royal realm.
  1.  Peers who hold a peerage through baron to duke.
  1.  Gentry who are of noble stock but hold no peerage.

There is also a provision on this charter for extinct and exiled nobility.

If the Ministry of Civil Affairs has overlooked an extant and surviving noble house, please contact the office of the Secretary so this may be amended and properly classified.

Duke Henrik Ludovar rolls in his grave as Ludovar, a cadet branch of Barbanov, is listed as a non-ancient house when it’s been around for about 120 something years unlike the Alimar’s who were founded about 30 years ago.

House Pruvia? Hmph.

A passing Imperial bureaucrat reminds the people that they ought to petition the Ministry of Civil Affairs to resolve any disputes!

(Perhaps not Henrik in this case. The bureaucrat has no access to the land of the dead.)

Desmond fixes his gaze upon the document, a warm smile crawls upon his visage as he notices the acknowledgement of his house upon the ancient nobility section.  “Ave.” He would remark, before closing the parchment; returning to his work for his 1740 candidacy.
