Missive to the Displaced Ruberni

Issued Winter 1761

TO THE RUBERNI PEOPLE,

Following the recent war, the crises stemming has taken both men and women of Highlander culture by storm. Despite the displacement of these Highlanders, however, the bond has only been strengthened through this struggle. As a result of our unbreakable bond, the Nordish people, with the consent of Caedric, Duke of Morsgrad, and the willingness of the Princess Anabel, welcome the Ruberni to Darrowmere with open arms until they are properly able to reinstate their position and population so that they may once again reclaim the strength of their great people which they held before the war, now bolstered by the newfound peace. Additionally, the Ruberni royalty is permitted to retain their titles in the Highland Realm if they had previously held them in Rubern at time of relocation.

A LETTER FROM A RUBERNI TO HER PEOPLE

Czian,

It is with a relieved heart that I write to you, in the gracious Duke’s own homestead, kamarads. It has been years since my reign, regrettably consumed by an era of unrest and war. I was young, at the time, yet certainly capable of ensuring the wellbeing of you all -- and I am not afraid, nor abashed, to admit such. Our city, bordered by grain, viridescent fields,  and the vibrant River Ruber, prospered once more, and Ruberni and Vrakians of all ages left their homesteads to attend our afamed tourney, a marvelous jubilation held to celebrate our joint efforts to salvage our dying culture. It was then, as I surveyed your smiling, gleeful faces as I sat upon the throne that my love for went unparalleled. I resolved to do as my mother, Queen Ester, did; as my father, the blood-lusting Black Prince, did for his people; as my sister, Princess Aleksandra, did for the Haeseni whence she served as their maer. And therefore, in light of the recent diaspora of the Ruberni, it is imperative that I do the same: I beckon you all, in the humblest of sentiments, to join me in Darrowmere -- free from strife and war that burdened us in the past. While the Orenians are our compatriots now, there remains comfort in familiarity, and there is no one more familiar to us than the kindly people whom serviced beneath His Grace, the late Duke Godric. In the recesses of Montburgh, my people, we now have a chance to flourish, as we should have been doing so very long ago.

Signed,

Anabel, Princess of the Ruberni People

“These people butchered my aunt when she was just a child – do they believe they will be set free from annihilation? Salt and fire, Rubern will be destroyed.” commented Sigismund as he recovered from an assassination attempt, reading over a report brought to him.

The Archchancellor sends for the Secretary of Foreign Affairs in response to this news. Within a few days, it is known throughout Novellen and the greater world Godfrey Briarwood’s mission northwards. @KBR

Within Novellen Palace, Lord Pompourelia engorges on his second serving of roast duck. Novellen is rife with talk of the missive by dinnertime, and thus the Count rants to his brother, the Duke of Helena.

Could you believe, that these mongrels have the gall to claim they are Highlander Realm? I can trace my patrilineal ancestry directly back to the Soothsayer from both our father and mother. From the Soothsayer to the Kings of Jroth and Joren Horenson directly. The Rurics are undoubtedly of Ugluk origin, the scions of the Warchief Puck Ugluk. Atleast that is what the oral history of Krugland would have us believe... from the words of our own Governor Strickland. They spoke of a half-orc son of the Warboss Nux Ugluk whom was abandoned in the care of the legendary Volsung family.

This would in doubt explain their aversion to humanity, worship of animistic spirits, and bloodlust. They even maintain the same level of government, with Clan Chiefs and the like. One must sympathize with the Lady Rubern however, for what level of sexual frustration one must face when your only suitable prospects for marriage are amongst those within a nonhuman coalition.

As the Seventh Nordling War has ended, the Eight will sooner than later be upon us.

Caedric reads over the missive, he’d smile as have looks over to Mister Muffins, his loyal Chamberlain and the High Keeper, ”With the Ruberni reunited with their kin in the Highlander Realm, we shall make peace, and we shall prosper. The Allfather shall guide us true.”
