Yesterday, Fabius “Fabio” Bracchus was found dead outside of his New Reza home. Medical officials have concluded that the cause of death was cardiac arrest. Earlier that day, Bracchus had faked two heart attacks, allegedly as a “prank” on his fellow elderly peers. Ironically, when Bracchus plead for assistance during the apparently real heart attack, bystanders assumed the heart attack was fake. It was not.

Bracchus was an aged Parliamentarian, responsible for advocating some of the Empire’s most radical politics and proposals. Originally hailing from the countryside of Belvitz, he and his cousins – Publius and Claudius – moved away from the city when faced with ethnic discrimination targeted towards the large Illatian minority present in the Belvitz community. He proceeded to work as a royal chef in the Krepost of Markev, specializing in Illatian cuisine. Bracchus would live the rest of his life in Haense.

As a worker, Bracchus read and reveled in literature relating to worker empowerment and commoner solidarity, most commonly observing Bernardist and Sanoist writers. His advocacy for far-left economic policies were accompanied by pious Canonist observance, rarely missing mass at the local church. This lead to the young Fabio attending a session of the Emperor’s court in Carolustadt, and presenting the concept of an Imperial legislature to Emperor Aurelius II. To the room’s surprise, the Emperor accepted to pursue such a legislature, with oversight from the Privy Seal.

Bracchus was the primary author of the Statute of Carolustadt, proposing the creation of the Empire’s first representative legislature some seven decades ago, with revisions from Prince Alexander Frederick on behalf of the Imperial administration. This legislature is considered to be his life’s biggest achievement. To Bracchus’ dismay, however, many edits were made to prevent radical change. The amount of elected positions were drastically reduced from fifteen to three, citizens living outside of major population centers were barred from political participation, nobles were given permanent seating in the legislature, and political speech was drastically limited. Regardless, Bracchus would go on to serve as the Imperial Election Commissioner, managing and operating the Empire’s electoral process. Bracchus left his post briefly after being elected the Maer of Markev. Working alongside the Common Civic Party and their majority leader, Robert Sigismund Barbanov, the party would win a plurality of the elected seats, and held power for two of the three terms in which the Parliament was functional. In the latter of those two terms, Fabio was drafted to run as the Prefect for the city of Markev, narrowly tying with his competitor in the CCP primary election, Henrik Otto Ludovar. The tie-breaker was the King of Haense, Robert I, deciding that Bracchus was the more suitable candidate. Bracchus then easily beat his opponent from the Aurelian Party, Bjolfr Nord, as Markev was a CCP stronghold due to the endorsements of politicians Robert Sigismund and Rhys var Ruthern. He’d then be nominated as the Chairman of the Committee on Taxation, Budgeting and Finance, reviewing legislation related to fiscal and monetary policy. During his third term, Bracchus developed a scholarly relationship with Lord Spiritual and Lord Privy Seal, Theodoric of Markev, wherein he expanded his holiness and devout reliance in the Canonist faith. In his time, Bracchus proposed then-radical legislation which has been widely accepted in the modern era, such as a national jobs registry, proportional representation, and Empire-wide suffrage. Come the early 18th century, the Imperial Parliament slowly dissolved, as it was deemed obstructionist, dysfunctional, and unnecessary.

Bracchus then moved on to engage in local politics. The city of Markev was riddled with economic problems. The city had a notorious retirement problem, with an aging population who were unable to work. The farms outside of the city walls were poorly tended, and the city’s public food distribution service was temporarily inoperable. Bracchus formed a Haense-wide political party known as the Sanoist Republican Party, in which they ran in elections for Haense’s legislature. They were active for two legislative terms, electing two seats in their first election, and five in the second. For a brief three years, the Sanoist Republican Party had a plurality of seats in the legislature. It was the first and only time in human history where a Sanoist party has ever experienced electoral success over their competitors. Those elected representatives sponsored and passed legislation attempting to fund a retirement program and nationalize the farming industry, with local old-timer legend “Butch.” The party was disbanded following the next election, where all party members either resigned or lost their bid for re-election. Bracchus was generally inactive following the dissolution of said party. He proceeded to participate in some academic endeavors, while also campaigning to assist the lower class in Renatus.

Come 1762, Bracchus was hired by the Ministry of Education to host an academic-oriented gameshow, Mina Madness, as a way to promote educational initiatives in the Empire. It experienced wild success, where some players were able to garner massive amounts of minae as a reward for their vast knowledge of varied subjects, such as the game’s champion-to-date Conrad Barclay, who won 5,050 mina in a single game.

When the House of Commons was established and adopted proportional representation, an electoral system he’d advocated for decades, Bracchus finally saw a reason to engage in the political scene once more. Dabbling as an operative and donor for the Everadine Party, Bracchus would champion the rights of the working man and advocate for commoner solidarity. It was well known that Bracchus was generally an advocate for the Everadine Party, even though he admitted he preferred the Josephite stance on some issues of government checks and balances. In his final year, the old man, now in his late 90’s, published a missive advocating for expanding the democratic rights of the voter.

Bracchus is survived by his first cousin once removed, Eugene “Eddy” Bracchus, a justice in the Central Circuit. In his will, he has left 500 mina to the Everadine Party, in hopes it shall be used to create a campaign for the common voter.

Somewhere out there in the universe a voice called out for Fabius, an old compariot who shared his visions of democracy. It was in that place that the two met again as young men once more, a life yet to live and joys yet to experience. The old men were young. Alexander Frederick and Fabius were reunited in the Seven Skies to walk upon the green fields forever more.

Karl Amador, closed his eyes with a frown and lowered his head to mutter a soft prayer before saying to those beside him "A great statesman passed away today... Lest we forget.”

Meanwhile, in the Seven Skies, Henrik Amador and the other Sanoist comrades put on their Blue Berets, standing to attention and saluting Fabius as after many, many years, he at last would join them.
