A Triumphant Imperial Brigade stands tall after slaying Ruberni and Morsgradi Screamers

In this day and age, when did it become right to criticize the service of the veterans of the Imperial State Army - not simply to speak harsh words, but to mock, to ridicule, and ultimately attempt to make fools of the heroes of our Empire? As I made my way into Varoche Hall and looked upon the faces of our legislators, however, I found myself in the company of men born with silver spoons in mouth decrying the SERVICE of Jonah Elendil.

They know not of the Siege of Mokh-Uruk, where we fought in the dunes and steppes, driving back the would-be Orcish invaders to their caves and achieving a great victory. While I fought on the front lines, these men were at home, thanking God that they had the men and women of the Imperial State Army fighting to maintain everything our great Empire stood for. And so too with the Rubern War, when its integrity was threatened by vile, barbaric tribes, when everyone was called to take up arms in defense of the Empire, where were these men? I did not see them.

They so easily speak on the services of men; even those such as I, who have served this country since the beginning of His Imperial Majesty’s reign. Did I serve so many years so that I might be asked what I have done for my Country, when it has been published already? What these Everardines have done is nothing but insult the service we’ve put in. I demand that, in respect to Jonah Elendil’s and my service, they apologize for politicizing it. Turning something that one should take pride in, and attempting to shame them for it, is a disrespect to the highest degree. Do you men who publish such material not honor your veterans? Let them call me ’Cyrus the Complacent’. It rings far better than Cyrus the Coward - look upon yourselves before you start criticizing the service of those who put their lives on the line for this country.

Yours Truly,

Cyrus Basrid

Sir Henry shakes his head as he tosses the missive into the flames in his room.

“What a crock, Elendil was a coward who cut and ran after the first battle. And he claims to be a veteran. Good to see the josephite shills dragging out the cellar for people to whine about it.”

An elderly Administrator known as Charles de Rennes simply pinned an old treatise of his own to the missive. “Ironic, isn’t it? Not so entertaining when it’s Josephite soldiers being questioned?” He grumbled.

“The Everardines legislated to increase the power of the Imperial State Army in issuing on-the-spot fines, saving time and trouble for boys in uniform. We have NEVER mocked the army, we have NEVER mocked any serving member. This is utter lies and should be thoroughly rebuked by any logical and civilised person of the Empire. Mr. Basrid should have put his time further in speaking and participating into the Diet which he was elected into, than writing such misleading attacks. The only one politicising the ISA now is Cyrus, calling into question His Imperial Majesty‘s most loyal minority faction.” the Everardine Leader stated, shaking his head with disapproval.

Lajos shakes his head after reading the nonsensical missive. “While I thank Cyrus for his service, his rambling is full of lies. We have given the utmost respect towards the ISA and have strengthened their power. We criticize Elendil solely because he cowardly left the ISA as an commissioned officer due to his gentry heritage after less than a year of service and after his first battle. Yet he claims to be a veteran and a war hero who defended the Empire when he ran with his tail between his legs after his first battle and never took his position as officer seriously. How can Cyrus defend a man who has disgraced this Empire and its military?”

“Thank GOD for the ISA; quick to arrest anyone for any slight, perceived or otherwise, and to slap the word ‘treason’ upon it for justice and cause. The same force that cannot apprehend two men, but are still desperate to do so for no reason other than their relative success and status. The ISA is an army of disillusioned recruits and deluded officers, with nary an ounce of skill between the two. It is where young men go to die, whether of boredom or of brigandry. It is a joke.”

Keaton Errmark, leading his victorious Seaguard along the Imperial roads, would curse them.

“I have no conception,” offers another elderly administrator to an aide, reading Basrid’s public letter aloud, “Of neither Josephite nor Everardine soldiers, but only of Orenian soldiers.”

“I do, however, have a conception of those who would readily betray their country to go over to the Nordlings, or the pillager-piasts of the great unwashed. The Everardine party, that I frankly support, should never be required to rely on the returning votes of ‘fair-weather’ Orenians.”

“Your viewpoint is scintillating, sir,” says the aide with a hint of sarcasm.

Old Man Charles, patriarch of the fourth generation of his family’s lineage of Imperial Administrators, a welcome guest at Secretary Wright’s events, a man who helped negotiate the new Pax Orenica and who hasn’t set foot outside of Oren in the past fifty years, neither him nor any members of his immediate family – including his two sons and a grand-nephew who had fought against the pagans and attempted to enlist in the ISA, but for some inexplicable reason were never processed – scratched his head in confusion at the vague accusations of his integrity, and also those at long-dead men over supposed treason.

Spoiler

If you’re looking to justify OOC ostracism over RP actions in the war, it would have been less jarring to at least pick the characters in question 😄
