A PUBLIC ADDRESS TO THE SILVER WORDSMITH

10th of the Amber Cold, 1788

To the Silver Wordsmith,

Maehr’sae Hiylun’ehya. This phrase, to the betrayal of its brevity, serves as the fundament of Silver. Our most ancient philosophy, preserved virginal unto the Silver City’s rediscovery in Asulon. It is a guide of moral virtue, and more prominently to the end of progress, be it scientific or a more abstract philosophical fulfilment. In that regard I commend the ready proliferation of your essays; logical writings, outlining their dissensions, are far more palatable than the emotional rabble-rousing of the Diarchy. Accordingly, any who hold political qualms are always welcome to write similarly, or host their own public discussions. They, however, are discouraged from sowing distrust through slander. For that is unreasonable, and one cannot harken themselves as Mali’thill and prostitute reason in the same breath. Of this, noble wordsmith, you are guilty.

I beseech any concerned citizens observe carefully, so that you may understand the nature of this writer’s fraud, and the method of trickery they so boldly employ. I shall lay my beliefs, my ideology, bare for you to discern of your own volition; not corrupted by derivative hearsay. Firstly, I have been declared a worshipper of Azdromoth. A worshipper I am not. My body is bare, unpainted, as it were on the day of my birth, save the limb I have lost in service of the State. My home contains no shrines, its adornment achieved through tomes of academic value. All actions I undertake are solely and irrevocably mine; I seek not the advice of deity, nor the power it may afford its worshippers. Indeed, I have been vocal in my view that religion is illogical, and has no place within the State. Haelun’or has always been unyielding in its secularity, and unyielding it will continue to be.

On your second matter, you claim the First Titan’s lack of intervention in the Inferi siege of Aegrothond as evidence that our own pact is meritless. Yet the wood elves of Elvenesse made no treatise of their own. Our pact was wrought in a convention between Elhieal’thilln and Azdromoth, a formal discussion no different than the ones we hold with foreign political entities. It was agreed, with the terms that are still readily posted on the public bulletin for anyone to read, that the Drakaar would protect Haelun’or. Aegrothond is, self-evidently, not within the Silver State’s borders. Just as we would assist our allies in the Holy Orenian Empire, we would not be obliged to assist another country with which we have no relations. You further claim there is no evidence of the wards working, yet their value was proved shortly after their erection. During the previous Sohaership, when the now-Empress of Oren was within Elcihi on diplomatic mission, the wards activated and thwarted a demon’s assault, burning it entirely to ash.

On your view on the notion of draconic power being ‘greater purity’: I agree, as does the entire council. You quote the utterings of a single, now retired Okarir, and conflate that to be the guiding ideology of the state. Purity is not classified in such degrees: it either is, or is not. Any who seek to become Azdrazi should proceed knowing they forsake their birthright of Silver, and will likewise forfeit the political rights conferred upon Mali’thill.

Draconic beings have not corrupted our children, nor our councilors. Rather you, noble wordsmith, have corrupted the minds of honest citizens with your defamations. If you, in your mind, of which its wit I do not doubt, believe your words true, I call upon you to reveal yourself. Forego your anonymity and false moniker and come before the people of Haelun’or in the citadel. Let us hold a public discussion, grounded in reason and without lies, for that is the way of Larihei. Maehr’sae Hiylun’ehya.

Signed by the Sohaer of Haelun’or,

Keledan perused the address from the shaded, ivory confines of whatever public forum he frequented within the Silver City. A wry grin crept across his face as he entertained the reasonable and far more palatable wit of the incumbent Sohaer.

”Ah, such magnificent reason. I commend you, goodly Sohaer.”

The Maheral stares straight at the Azdrazi man – Keledan – from across the ivory confines of whatever public forum he also frequented. “If you say things like that,” he says (like that) “people may get the wrong idea.”

Ikur Sullas looks at the observer.

Keledan looked to the Maheral as he made comment on his own remark towards the address.

”You are right. The public may find me dangerously inclined towards public discourse.”

“A worthy successor to my uncle Nelgauth, indeed.” Visenna Maehr’tehral would nod firmly, contented with the contents of this public address.

Mogroka the Blind allowed for one eye to spare view of the letter, the other having run amuck in concentration. Consolation managed his weary, sickly visage as he only briefly gazed upon the letter, somber glare lacing his glower, taking the greater form of a weak scowl.

”One day at a time, Sohaer. Someday, I will be there to lead you on, to whereabouts Ixli roams.”
