PARTY ORIGINS

 

The National Party was founded in the crucible of the city of Providence, from the foundations of the Commonwealth Club - a political discussion society and exclusive club based out of Helvets Avenue. The first ‘Commonwealthers’, chiefed by Ciprian de la Baltas, originated as a broad-based coalition who resolved to stand for honest government, anti-machine politics and fiscal responsibility. Since that time, they have rebranded themselves the National Party, and taken the colours of the flag as their own.

 

PARTY IDEALS & POLICIES 

 

Good Government - In the political tradition of the ‘old’ Josephinism pioneered by Emperor Joseph I, the Nationals believe in an enlightened government whose role is to facilitate fairness and opportunity for all Imperial subjects, through the promotion of natural rights, strong economic conditions and healthy, free commerce. 

 

Regular Elections - A National government promises to advise Their Imperial Majesties to dissolve and summon the Diet at regular intervals, thereby guaranteeing regular elections with five years or less time between them. 

 

Fiscal Discipline - The Empire can not be at any time a debtor nation. A National government will cut unnecessary spending, reduce the deficits and ensure the Imperial Treasury delivers a steady surplus, so that it might be able to stay afloat in times of crisis or other financial emergency. It is integral that our Empire remain in excellent financial standing at all times, rather than become a spendthrift country. 

 

Hard Work and Industry - Taking the oxen as the symbol within their ruby rosette, the cornerstone values of the National Party are hard work and industry. A National government will offer fair opportunity for any Imperial subject willing to work hard and industriously, whatever their race or social standing. 

 

Deregulation - Since the first modern Imperial Diet in the 1730s, an overwhelming amount of legislation has been passed. Legislators, many of whom are solicitors by trade, contrive countless bills and amendments on irrelevant or nonexistent issues, the overwhelming majority of which are never enforced by law. Very little of this legislation is responsible for any tangible improvement in the lives of Imperial subjects. The first act of a National government will be to repeal these acts. 

 

Anti-Cronyism - The National Party rejects the patronage system of contemporary metropolitan politics. In opposition to big-city machines and the office trading and corruption that characterizes them, a National government will appoint diligent and dedicated officials, chosen for their capacity to work tirelessly for their fellow countrymen, not party bosses.

 

Infrastructure - A National government will complete the vital routes that connect the Empire’s manors, towns and cities, facilitating the integral flow of trade between these regions. 

 

Orenian Exceptionalism - The Holy Orenian Empire is the greatest nation that ever was or will be. Respecting the history and tradition of the empires of yore, associations of people coming together for the common good, is of paramount importance to the Nationals. The average Imperial subject is as exceptional as the country itself - and the opportunities and protections extended to them must reflect this. It is of vital importance to the National Party that the institutions and civic bonds which bind Imperial subjects together be advocated for and defended, chief among them Their Imperial Majesties, who are the embodiment of the Imperial people and joint defenders of our constitution.

“Glorious!” William Theodore commented between two puffs of a light cigerette, “The Nationals shall see the light of day within the House of Commons. Do not fret, my beloved Josephite opposition. We have not forgotten our seats yet!” William concluded his statement with a sign of the Lorraine Cross before moving back to reading a newspaper.

Sergeant Heath linnord would walk out of the mines covered in dirt and grime. The 60 year old man walks to the gatehouse and struggles to sit down, his back being in immense pain from constant labor. He’d pick up the document and read it over “Hopefully the nationals are able to get funding for the ISA. I’m struggling to pay taxes and don’t even have a tuvmas present for m’lady.. I haven’t received a paycheck in over three years.”
