Singing Trees

Spoiler

Lore Summary

Druidic Singing Trees, an art lost to the ages and only recently rediscovered by those who have interacted with an ancient Druidic Circle that existed upon Arcas. These Trees are designed to house memories, and messages of the Druids who interacted with them and wished to leave something behind. These memories could then be listened to by any who understood the intricacies of the tree itself. Now as a newer version of these trees have been discovered a new generation of druii will be able to leave behind messages and teachings for generations to come.

Magic Explanation

Singing Trees are a Druidic feat. One must be attuned as a druid and must have been taught Druidic infusion in order to create the tree or the index to navigate them. These trees serve as a flavorful way for druids to record messages, warning, or even certain teachings. These teachings however can not be in any form of magical lesson that would require an MA or FA to preform. Singing Trees require an mc representation in the world that must be ST approved. In order to learn this feat you must be taught by someone with an accepted TA of the feat, once you have had the Feat for over 1 irl month you may put up a TA application.

Spells/Abilities

Singing Tree Creation

Description

A tree which grows a great many crystalline leaves upon it, while the bark branches appear mundane. Through Communion and Druidic Infusion a Druid can create such a tree, at first bare with no leaves upon it. After some time a Druid can add memories to this tree allowing for their own voice to tell stories or lessons. They may also bring other Druids to do the same, by either using Powersharing with them, or using an Index to add their own memories and stories. For every story and message left, a new crystal-like leaf shall grow containing these memories. The leaf will take on the color of the aura of the Druids who created it, no matter who places the information within the tree.

Mechanics

A Druid may create a Singing Tree outside of combat. They will find themselves unable to use any other abilities after creating the tree as it does require druidic Infusion to create a tree. Over the Course of Six (6) emotes a singing tree can be grown to a sapling state in that time as it will take three elven days (3 irl days) for it to achieve its full grown size. These trees will not aid a druid in combat as they are empty vessels created to only store knowledge. Should a druid wish they may ungrow a singing tree to move it to a new location turning it into a crystalized seed. At this time a druid is unable to hear any of the memories within the seed that may be stored there.  If the seed is not planted within one elven week (1 irl week) or druidic energy is not introduced into the seed at a constant rate then it will crumble into dust. A singing tree can be destroyed like any other tree though many may find it slightly more durable than other trees.  A singing tree must be exposed to the open sky in order for it to grow otherwise the tree will stay in a dormant sapling state and eventually crumble into dust. Finally a sign that is signed or locked by the ST must be present, a sign with contact information for the creator of the tree must be present, and a sign with a link to the forum post containing the Singing Tree’s knowledge must be present.

Red Lines:

Spoiler
  • A Singing Tree can only be created by someone who has an accepted Feat Application

  • You must have an accepted TA in this Feat to teach it to others.

  • To place knowledge into a Tree you must either possess an index, or Powershare with someone who has an index.

  • A Singing Tree is a flavorful way of storing, books, stories, and lessons and can not be used in combat.

  • Players cannot use a Singing Tree to allow for Self Teaching of Druidism or any of the abilities that are associated with Druidism.

  • Players cannot use a Singing Tree to teach any ability that requires a MA, or FA application.

  • Only may only add knowledge to a Singing Tree while not in combat, and not near-death.

  • Players may not use a Singing Tree to store the names/identifies of an individual or group in the process of killing them, or otherwise storing knowledge which will violate death/resurrection rules.

  • All Druidic Infusion guidelines, and redlines must be followed.

  • Ungrowing a Singing Tree requires that a sign be left indicating that the tree has been moved, or no longer there.

  • The above rule follows for if a Singing Tree is cut down or destroyed.

  • Removing a leaf causes instant destruction of a random memory.

  • Removing a branch keeps the memories alive, but the branch can not be returned to the tree through any means. The branch can only survive 3 irl days without a flow of Druidic energy. If this is not provided, the branch goes dormant.

  • A singing tree branch cannot be replanted to grow a new singing tree. If the Singing Tree Branch goes dormant, the memories are lost.

  • A Singing Tree can only survive for one irlweek after being turned into a seed.

  • Should the seed maintain druidic energy it can survive indefinitely so long as it receives a steady supply of this energy.

  • A singing tree must be built between 6 to 10 blocks in height.

  • A singing tree must be exposed to the open sky and have access to dire

Example Creation

Spoiler

[1] An Elder Druid prepares themselves within a small secluded grotto, carefully pulling out a singular acorn as they look to it. Leaning over and carefully planting it into the ground as their eyes would begin to glow a much darker green than their normal passive glow.

[2] The Elder Druid would focus upon the spot where the acorn had been planted as energy begins to slowly build up around them, wisps of green energy slowly flowing off of their form and towards the spot where the acorn was buried.

[3] As the energy pools over the area where the acorn is buried. The Elder dDruii would let out a deep breath as they continued to focus. The large pool of energy now seeming like a small puddle of green energy still steadily building up waiting to be used.

[4] Holding in a deep breath the Elder Druii’s focus would now shift, seeing the energy finally reach the amount needed as it began to funnel slowly into the ground and directly into the acorn that rested just below the surface of the dirt.

[5] The Druid would keep his focus as the last of the energy filled the acorn as nothing seemed to happen at first. Slowly the ground where the acorn was planted seemed to move and shudder as if something was moving beneath it before finally a singular twig would push through the dirt.

[6] The plant would continue to push past the dirt and out to the surface continuing to grow slightly before stopping. Before the druid would now be a barren sapling holding no leaves but seeming to be full of life from the druidic energy that had been given to it. Nodding his head the Elder Druid would slowly stand up and stretch out his back as now he waited for the sapling to reach its full size in the coming days.

Index Creation

Description

A simple item which is infused with the knowledge needed to navigate the vast library of a Singing Tree. This item can be anything that can be held by the Druid so long as it has been Infused with the knowledge. The Index itself allows for a Druid to not only navigate the archive of a Singing Tree, but to add new memories and stories too.

Mechanics

A Singing Tree Index is used to simply access a Singing Tree. Much like reading a book a Druid can use this index to travel through the vast library of knowledge that may be stored within the tree itself.  This allows for a Druid to connect to the Index in one emote, and then to the tree in a second emote. To do this a Druid may not be in combat or conflict of any kind as this requires their full attention. With another two emotes a Druid may add a memory of their own to the tree through the index itself. This item must be created prior to accessing the tree itself. So long as the item is created using Druidic Infusion and has an ST signature then it can be anything that may be held within the Druids grasp. The index must be placed within something that can

be held within the hand such as a crystal that can then be implanted into another item.

Red Lines:

Spoiler
  • An Index requires an ST Signed item that was created through Druidic Infusion.

  • “Singing Tree Index” essentially acts as an enchantment for Druidic Infusion in Communion lore.

  • You may not use this item to access a Singing Tree during Combat or Conflict.

  • You may use this item along with Powersharing to show someone else memories in the tree.

  • The Index can be destroyed like any other item.

  • Indexes are compatible with any Singing Tree

  • One may not use the Index on anything other than a Singing Tree.

  • An Index may not store memories from the Singing Tree at all, it is simply a relay to add and view the memories of the tree.

  • Requires that you Commune through the Index to use it.

  • With an Index you can seek out and find the location of a particular piece of information within a leaf.

  • The index must be placed into nothing larger than a hand sized crystal.

Example Creation

Spoiler

[1] Eryn would move to sit down in the comfort of his own home. Carefully reaching into his pouch as he pulled out a singular acorn. Holding it in his hand he would let out a slow breath as his eyes began to glow a brilliant blue color.

[2] Focusing now on the acorn, blue wisps of energy would begin to slowly flow off of Eryn’s form and coales around his right hand that held the acorn. The energy simply swirling around it for the moment as more and more of it would flow to his hand.

[3] Eryn would release a deep breath as the energy had reached its entirety. Focusing now fully upon the acorn and the energy the druid would go completely still. Watching as the energy now slowly shifted and filtered into the acorn as it began to fill the acorn with new energy and a new purpose.

[4] Breathing out a sigh of relief. Eryn would watch as the energy fully vanished and fused with the acorn as he held it up and looked at it. A smile now formed on his face as he soon after pocketed the item and stood up carefully to keep his balance as he went about the rest of his business for the day.

Memory Storage Locations

Upon Creation of a Singing tree a forum post must be created. This post will house all the knowledge that is housed in the singing tree. A google document may also be made that houses the information as well. Whenever information is added or removed from the singing tree then the post and the document need to be updated to reflect what was added or what was removed. Should the tree be removed or destroyed then the post shall be hidden as the knowledge within that tree is no longer accessible to anyone.  The forum post itself must contain a link to the Singing Tree Lore, it must also contain a link to this guide for how to interact with the tree. It should also be stated on the post that this knowledge can not be meta gamed and those without an index can not access the information freely. It should be noted that the rp name of the individual who added the information must also be attached to the message that they left behind as it is relayed in their characters voice.

Singing Tree Interaction

(Emote Guide)

For all interactions the forum post must be used in one form or another.

Interaction while using an Index

Spoiler

[1]  Saelian would walk up to the blue crystal covered tree that rested within the grove. Looking it over at first she would step up to it and carefully rest her hand upon it as her eyes began to glow a more vibrant color.

[2] Reaching into her pocket she would produce a wooden carving of an octopus as she held it in her hand looking at it as energy slowly flowed off her form and into it before continuing to flow into the tree itself.

(At this point you will look at the forum post or google document for the information you seek out)

[3] As the energy flowed into the tree Saelian’s eyes would close. Her eyes darted behind the lids of her eyes as if she was looking for something in particular  before she stopped and seemed to listen to something. Eventually pulling back she would smile as her eyes lost their glow and she skipped back off towards her home.

Interaction while someone else is using an Index

Spoiler

[1] Eryn would walk up to the Singing Tree that resided inside of the grove. Glancing to his right as he was accompanied by another druid. Ushering to the tree the druid would place their hand upon it as their eyes began to glow a soft red color. Eryns own eyes would begin to glow a more vibrant blue as he moved to rest his hand upon their shoulder.

[2] As the druid touching the tree focused so did Eryn. Pulling out a singular acorn as he let out a slow breath, blue wisps of energy slowly began to flow from his form and into the acorn as he prepared to share the knowledge of the tree with the druid in front of him.

[3] Slowly the energy that had flowed into the acorn would flow through the druid in front of Eryn. The energy flowing through their body and through the point of contact into the tree itself. The energy seemed to be guided as if it was seeking out something from deep within the tree itself.

(At this point you will reference the forum post or the google document for the information that you are seeking out and wish to share.)

[4] Eventually the energy that was sent into the tree would slowly return through the Druid who was touching the tree. They seemed to pause and listen to something before opening their eyes and smiling. Eryn would pause and listen as well before removing his hand from the druid in front of them as his eyes would lose their brilliant glow.

Interaction without an Index

Spoiler

[1] A young Druid would stumble upon the strange blue crystalline tree that rested within the grove. Closing their eyes and opening them once more as they glowed a dull yellow they would rest their hand upon the tree itself.

[2] The young Druid seemed to be attempting to commune with this strange tree. Though their mind would seem to be almost bombarded with many different whispers, all in different voices as they seemed unable to make any of them out, but they focused and tried to narrow in on a singular voice.

(At this point you will reference the forum post or have contacted the creator of the tree to help you. Upon referencing the post you will see how many memories are currently in the tree, If there are 100 you will do /roll 100 and whatever you get is the memory that you will hear)

[3] As the younger Druid focused, finally a singular voice would stand out. They seemed to listen for a moment confused before pulling their hand back in awe as they looked up on the tree and the message they had just heard from it.

Memory addition Interaction

Spoiler

[1] An Elder Druid would slowly step up to the crystalline tree that rested deep within the grove itself accompanied by Eryn. The man would nod to them offering a smile before handing her what looked like an acorn. Taking it the druid would focus upon it as her eyes would begin to glow a more vibrant color than their normal everyday glow.

[2] As they focused, wisps of energy would slowly begin to form all around them as they began to encircle the acorn that she held within her grasp, the energy itself building up as the druid seemed to focus on something in particular.

[3] Eventually the energy would seep fully into the acorn as the Elder Druid would reach their hand out and lay it upon the bark of the Singing Tree. Slowly the energy that had filled the acorn would begin to flow from it, through them and then into the tree itself.

[4] As the Druid focused the energy that flowed into the tree. It seemed to divert from the point of origin as it shot up through the tree and into the branches itself towards a barren branch. The energy seemed to reside there for a moment before a singular blue bud that continued to grow.

[5] The energy seemed to swell before finally a brand new crystal blue leaf resided upon the tree. Mixing in with the many other leaves that now resided upon it. The two druids would glance up as the light refracted through the leaves creating a rainbow of colors on the ground. Both of them were smiling as they both went upon their way.

Focused Memory Removal interaction

Spoiler

[1] Eryn would slowly and quietly walk up to the green colored Singing Tree. Glancing around to anyone who might be nearby as he slowly sat down next to the tree, his eyes beginning to glow a vibrant blue as his left hand rested upon the bark of the tree.

[2] Pulling out the small acorn from his pocket he would seem to focus fully upon it as blue wisps of energy began to pull in the palm of his hand and slowly seep into the acorn itself. His eyes never left it as he slowed his breathing in concentration.

[3] Finally the energy would flow from the acorn and through Eryn’s form. Finally finding the point of contact with the tree as it slowly entered into the bark and began to flow around as if looking for something. Eryn’s eyes would close as his eyes darted around behind his eyelids as he focused.

(At this point you will consult the forum post or google document to see what information is held within the tree itself. No roll is required as an index is being used.)

[4] Focusing in on the many different voices he would seem to pause as he listened before finally honing in on a singular voice in particular. Listening carefully to the words that played in his head a frown would slowly spread across his face as he focused the energy further and directly into the source of the words that were flowing.

[5]  Releasing a deep breath, Eryn would send the energy directly into the leaf that housed the knowledge he was listening to.  Opening his eyes he would look up for a moment as one of the leaves began to glow with a soft light before it faded. The leaf itself would begin to crack as slowly it turned to ash blowing away in the breeze as the memory was now lost to the winds. Eryn would stand up and quickly make his way off from the tree.

(At this point it is required that you contact the owner of the tree along with the ST. Giving them the screenshots of the proper rp if they ask for it. However the owner must be contacted so that the forum post can be edited and the memory removed. If the ST can do this they are allowed to edit the post as well)

Random Memory Removal Interaction

Spoiler

[1] John would slowly walk up to the strange crystal like tree. Eying it warily as he glanced upon the leaves before reaching up towards one of them at random. His hand found it as he gripped it attempting to tug at it before it finally came free.

(At this point you will consult the forum post or the owner of the tree. You will do a roll out of however many memories are within the tree. For example it may only have 50 so you do/roll 50 and the number you get is the memory that corresponds to the leaf you pulled from the tree.)

[2] As John pulled the leaf down it would look it over before it slowly began to crack and turn to ash right in his hand. Whatever the leaf had been now gone and scattered to the winds. Wiping the excess ash from his hand he would turn and walk away from the heathonous tree.

(At this point screenshots should be taken of the roll and rp. The owner should be contacted so they know what memory needs to be removed from the forum post. The ST should also be notified of the rp that took place, they may also edit the forum post if they are able to or contact the owner on your behalf for the information to be removed.)

Teaching Guide

Lesson 1

In the first lesson the student will learn how to create a Singing Tree by growing their own sapling. At this stage the sapling can either be kept alive or simply ungrown back into the dormant seed state so the student can place it wherever they would like. Doing so does not create a crystal seed like an ungrown singing tree but instead simply reverts the process that had started as the student does not feed the seed enough energy for the transformation to fully take hold.

Lesson 2

In the next lesson the student will learn how to create a Singing Tree index, this allows for them to create their very own index for accesses and manipulate the memories that are held within any currently active Singing Tree. With this lesson they will learn how to channel their energy through the index that acts as a catalyst allowing for them to listen to the voices held within the tree and single out specific voices that they wish to listen too.

Lesson 3

In the final lesson the student will learn how to add and remove memories that are housed within the Singing tree. With their teacher's help, the student will be shown how to add their energy to the existing energy within any singing tree. Allowing for their voice to join the multitude of songs that already reside deep within the tree. With the same principle of searching out a specific voice they will be shown how to push more of their energy into that specific area, causing the destruction of the leaf that holds the targeted memory that they are aiming to remove.
