Introduction

For many centuries, weefolk have been hole-dwellers. It is no secret that a halfling is happiest when at home, and it is undeniable that every halfling has the right to a warm burrow of their own. Alas, in recent years, many halflings who have been present in our community have gone without burrows for extended periods of time, despite the fact that we have plenty of room for them. In hopes of correcting this issue, the Council of Elders is pleased to present this guide to help weefolk both new and old acquire and maintain their burrows.

Acquiring a Burrow

Requirements

In order to acquire a burrow, you must fulfill the following requirements:

  • You must be a halfling above the age of thirty-three
  • You must have been present within the village for at least one year (seven pumpkin days)
  • You must not already have a burrow

If you meet these requirements, please contact an Elder via bird to begin the quick and easy process of getting a burrow.

The Elder Task

After you have contacted an Elder, they will give you a tour of any burrows which fit your given specifications such as:

  • How many weefolk are living in your burrow
  • How large of a space you are looking for
  • Any other specific preferences such as location

Following this tour, you may decide upon a burrow you wish to own. While burrows do not have any cost in mina or taxes, there is one additional requirment that must be fulfilled; the Elder Task:

  • The task is simple assignment given to prove a prospective resident's dedication to the village
  • There are no specific guidelines as to what this tasks can be, this is up to the Elder overseeing the process
  • The task must be reasonable; if you feel it isn't, please contact another Elder
  • The task must be completed within one pumpkin day. If you feel the task cannot be completed within one pumpkin day, please contact another Elder

Once the task is complete, you will recieve your chosen burrow.

Burrow-sharing

When speaking with your Elder about specifications regarding your burrow, you will be asked if you wish to share your burrow:

  • While you are not required to agree, we find that sharing burrows is a great way to make new friends, and saves space!
  • Should you say yes, you may be moved into the home of another halfling
  • If you agree to share a burrow but still recieve one of your own, another halfling may be moved into your burrow at a later date
  • If you already own a burrow, and are willing to share your burrow, please be sure to contact an Elder so that you may be added to a list of potential burrow-sharers

Rules of Owning a Burrow

As with anything you are given by the village, owning a burrow requires following some basic rules:

  • You are not permitted to modify the exterior of a burrow or add new floors and rooms to your burrow without permission from one of the Elders
  • You may not lock your doors or containers; that's improper!
  • You should keep your belongings in a safe, hidden place, such as under the carpet or behind a painting
  • If you do not follow these rules, you may be evicted from your burrow

Losing A Burrow

Should the Elders find that there are very few burrows remaining for new weefolk to move into, the Elders will check to see if all residents are still residing in their burrow:

  • These checks will occur every two years (fourteen pumpkin days)
  • A note will be placed near the door to your burrow, and you will be required to remove this note
  • If the note is left untouched by the time of the next check, your burrow will be evicted and opened up for new residents
  • Should you need to leave the village for an extended period of time, or are otherwise unable to remove the note, but wish to keep your burrow, you must contact an Elder to avoid being evicted during one of these checks

Should you be unable to acquire a burrow on account of not meeting the requirements, you may always request temporary accomodations within the inn or tavern. Both weefolk and trusted bigguns are permitted to reside within these quarters.

We are excited to provide residences to any wandering or homeless weefolk out there. Remember; if you have any questions or encounter any problems, do not hesitate to contact one of your Elders
