The Right Honorable 12th Baron of Artois, Olivier Alexandre Sylvester Luc Halcourt de Artois, ascended to his position 47 years ago. Following his brother, the 11th Baron of Artois Victor Clement, Olivier’s tenure was marked by a continued dedication to civil service from the younger generation. The House of Halcourt saw its youth grow to prominence across Almaris. Many great Halcourts thrived under the leadership of Olivier, from Alphonse Sylvester, Mayor of Providence;  to Cyril Eloi, Cardinal of the Canonist Church; to Madalene Sophia, Duchess of Vidaus; to Victor Simon Jr., Director of the Secret Service…

The House of Halcourt is one of the most ancient landed noble families in the Empire — perhaps the most ancient — and the House continues to establish itself as a premier family dedicated to civil, military, and clerical service. The Right Honorable 12th Baron of Artois has continued this tradition of legal service to crown and country, even as times continue to change. In light of Olivier’s advanced age, the Baron and the House of Halcourt do see fit to abdicate his title to allow a younger generation to lead. The Right Honorable Baron of Artois sees fit to focus his time on his service as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court while allowing his granddaughter to achieve the baronial coronet.

The Barony of Artois is an ancient title, which first saw usage in Old Savoy. King Olivier de Savoie made Sylvester Adelaide Halcourt the first Baron of Artois, with a small keep outside the capital city for his family. Since then, many Halcourt scions have held the title. The Barony was revived under the Imperium Quintus, with an island fortress purchased from a bankrupt family. Later, it was revived under Curon, and again during the reign of Peter III. A long line of Halcourt leaders has held this august title and kept the family’s traditions alive.

That venerable line grows longer today. Thus, we do announce the ascension of Evangéline  Marie Lucille as the 13th Baroness of Artois. Being as Olivier’s eldest and only son has disappeared for decades, the Right Honorable Baroness, as Olivier’s eldest grandchild, is the lawful inheritor of the Halcourt estate and peerage. The Right Honorable Baroness continues the Halcourt tradition of service to crown and country. Her leadership of the House of Halcourt begins today.

SIGNED,

The Honourable, Evangéline Marie Lucille Halcourt de Artois,

13th Baroness Regnant of Artois, Lady Concierge of the Aster Court

Victor Simon Halcourt, Jr. bows his head, watching as Evangeline is proclaimed Baroness at the Imperial Court session. "The House of Halcourt persists, as always. To quote our founder, Philip Halcourt: princeps in omnibvs. We are first in all things." He has a portrait made of the event, to hang in the under-construction family manor.

The youngest of the Madames de Provins' eyes light up as she reads the missive. "We must welcome her, non?" she asks her duo of elder sisters. (@VeganWalmart@clonky) "They are our brothers and sisters in culture."

An aged Geoff Turgon, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, sat on his own deathbed. "He never showed up to our meetings, anyways..." Then, "I hope this girl does well, and isn't quite as absent as the previous Baron."

Anne of Sunholdt moved through the city of New Providence to scout the soon to be evicted houses, obviously avoiding the lower class streets. Upon reaching on of the many bulletin boards scattered about the city, Anne ripped off the letter pinned to the board before shaking her head side to side in companionship with faint clicks of the tongue. "Not fit at all... Not at all. I pray for her family's future." At that the d'Arkent tossed the missive to the side, the wind picking it up and sending it floating to the edge of the street.
