A Long Awaited Retirement

HEAD PHYSICIAN OF THE PETRA

-⊰ THE YEAR OF OUR LORD 1965 ⊱-

 

 

When I founded the Vallagne Medical Society over 30 years ago on the premise of free and accessible medical aid to the citizens of Petra, I truly never expected the trials I would have to go through, or that I would be leading the Hospital for so long. I have seen Petra through war and prosperity, and I am very, very proud to be your Head Physician. But now, as I grow older, my hands are less steady, and my eyesight worsens, it is time to pass the torch on to a capable leader.

 

Marisol Solis has been my assistant for over 10 years and has grown into a competent, hardworking, and dedicated woman. I do not doubt that she will be an excellent leader and teacher to Petra's new generation of physicians.

 

As for myself, I will still help the physicians and teach lessons when I can, though I’d like to enjoy a quiet retirement with my husband. I would like to say thank you to every Petran who has shown me love while working as your Head Physician, along with Renilde and Catherine. I know I leave you all in excellent hands, and again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Prince Paul of Valfleur sent a private letter to the former Head Physician congratulating her on her well-deserved retirement, "She's a good one." he comments as he takes a puff from a joint of cactus green.

Theoderic von Theonus found the missive while walking around the Vallagne square. He paused to read it, flashing a smile when reaching the end. To say he was proud of all the things his wife had accomplished since they moved to the Commonwealth would be an understatement. He'd put the paper down, then run off to go get a note of his own.

 

Added to the bottom of his wife's retirement paper was a retirement announcement of his own:

 

I, the treasurer of the commonwealth am also retiring. Good luck Dame Wren.

Theo reads over the letter and grips his book of medical notes a little tighter. "Good for her." he says to nobody in particular. "It was a blast getting to learn what I have from her. I'm sure Miss Marisol will be splendid as well. Now then, lessons on burns..." he says as he goes off to find some texts.
