24th of Sun’s Smile, 1993

To the Faithful of Canondom,

I write to you not with triumph, but with the burden of a duty that must be carried out in service to GOD. On this day, the 24th of Sun’s Smile, 1993, Marus Weiss met his fate—by his own choices, by his refusal to repent, and by the grip of Iblees upon his heart.

Marus was no common sinner. He was a man who, though bearing no arms, wielded the words of blasphemy and defended the cursed children—those abominations created by Iblees himself. He stood as an advocate for the impure, denying the will of GOD and the teachings of His Church. Even in his final moments, when given the opportunity to seek redemption and purify his soul, he refused. He rejected the light of GOD and chose instead to walk in darkness, a man lost to the deceit of Iblees.

The Final Reckoning

On the mountain path leading towards Hohkmat, I found Marus, and there we exchanged words. I offered him mercy, as is the way of GOD. I urged him to repent, to recognize the evil he defended, and to seek salvation. But Marus was steadfast in his defiance. His heart, poisoned by the lies of Iblees, could not see the truth. And so, as a Brother of our beloved church, sworn to protect Canondom and root out the unholy, I carried out the justice of GOD.

With a heavy heart and a prayer upon my lips, I struck him down. His head was severed clean from his body—a final act of purification. His body was brought to Valdev, where it now rests beneath the Cathedral, wrapped in a bloodstained blanket, and marked by the holy symbol of the Lorraine Cross. Though he strayed from the light in life, I prayed that GOD might show him mercy in death.

A Warning to the Faithful

This was no act of vengeance. It was the righteous duty of a man sworn to GOD’s justice. Marus had chosen his fate by denying repentance and aligning himself with Iblees. He defended the cursed children, the beasts who bear no place among the faithful, and in doing so, sealed his own doom.

Let this be a warning to all who stray from the path of GOD. Mercy is offered to those who repent, but there is no salvation for those who defy His will. Iblees seeks to corrupt our hearts with false compassion for the abominations and heathens that walk among us. But the time for tolerance has passed. The fires of purification will cleanse the unholy, and the light of GOD will shine upon the righteous.

To those who defend the cursed, the heretics, the voidal mages, and the abominations—heed this: your fate will be no different from Marus'. Seek penance, return to the true faith, or face the judgment of GOD.

Deus Magnus. May the light of GOD guide you, and may His justice be swift.

"I ought to give this man a badge of honor." The Knight-Cardinal Druzstra had muttered after he dragged the body of Marus across the floor of the Haeseni clinic for autopsy. "Marus Weiss had come to reap what he had sowed after he sullied my daughter's honor, although I did not expect his deliverance like this."

In the end, Marus braced himself and relented to death for the one cause he always believed in, in his own way. No, he would not raised his arms to defend hiself against this man on the road. He caught him in conversation - he debated. And, in the end, he died. There was no point to principles, if one would not die by them.

And one should always do the right thing.

And so, he died by his one, overarching desire.

To make the world a better place.

3 minutes ago, Herod said:

Nerida stood beside the Knight-Cardinal with Marus' head within her arms. "It was a matter of time, ea suppose," murmured she as prepared to reassemble the Weiss.

Malna/Annika didn't fully know what Marus did, or what was exactly happening. All she knew in the end is that he was trying.

"I know I know," She had laughed, giving Marus a meal at her home, "Be safe too, ok?"

She sat there in the church cradling the man's head, staring into the pool of blood where she saw the last meal he had, that he never ate. Even after his head was taken she cradled the air. He was getting better wasn't he?

"May all those who reject the HOLY LIGHT OF OUR LORD GOD be defeated and sent to the Void with Iblees, where they belong!" remarked Father Marc upon hearing the news before signing the Cross of Lorraine.

"O' Saint Lucien, bless our most esteemed Brother Vincenzo with your righteousness and purity so that he may cleanse Aevos from sin, and from the Saulicians that threaten our beloved Canondom, just as Exalted Owyn once did with his Flaming Sword. Amen." he concluded.

Phillipe van Leuven read the missive, a slow scowl spreading across his face - not frustrated so much by the deed, but instead its implications.

"May we all have Brother Vincenzo's strength when dealing with matters of the same nature. It is not easy to strike down someone who was once a brother, but is more righteous than allowing him stray away from the Lord's light" The young acolyte would mutter to himself before continuing his studies.

A woman's faith is shaken once again.

Words bubble in her throat, and there they must stay.

She doesn't want to die too.

It's just not fair.

Arabella just wanted to speak to him one last time.

Dima Kovachev came across the missive, unsure of most of it's words as she was only just learning to read. Still, she recognized the name, and with the scene she had not been allowed to witness before her journey home, the dots connected. She was not one for running, and yet she took off with the wind to bring word to her mother.

Leoni reads the missive, a great amount of sorrow and loss bubbling within her at yet another friend and advocate for her kind are dashed against the rocks and left to die alone. She goes to pen a letter.

Brother Vincenzo,

You have openly admitted to the murder of a man that I held as a dear friend, for the crime of believing that Devils are indeed people that deserve some semblance of respect and dignity. Marus was a good and kind-hearted man, and you butchered him. I challenge you to a duel for his honor, and in his name. A duel to the death. He was the sort of man that would not have even risen up in his own defense. We will meet wherever you choose. Bring whatever weapons you wish. I will not sit idly by as the murderer of my friend walks freely. Come alone.

"At last the tortured soul is at rest. As much as I had a soft spot for the man, it is better like this." Said Karl Othaman upon hearing the news.

"The dark is a horrible and insidious thing. It shows you the full spectrum of personal emotion, captivating your heart, convincing you that you are not too unalike to it. This proceeds until that postulate is truthfully realized; the tail-eating snake."

"You were not wrong to feel empathy and hope; you were wrong to place trust within that which is dark and sits adjacent to the dark. Fear and pity the dark always, but hold your blade outstretched."

Silwyn Cerusil uttered these words towards the wind.

Mahpiya & Yusuf Amastan carried the body of Marus Weiss from within the corner of the clinic he had been laid upon to the horse of Viktor Weiss. Ahtadhir Mahpiya had warned Yusuf, pointing to a line of thick stitches that held the head between his shoulders; the two Farfolks cradled the body in the gentlest & most respectful manner. Mahpiya made it a point to keep Marus' head comfortable angled up against his slight paunch and carefully balanced between the shoulders as the two hoisted him up and onto Viktor's saddle. As Viktor started his horse off with as gentle a trot as could be managed on the cobblestones of the capitol, Mahpiya rested an open palm over his heart and his gaze reverently downward.

As Viktor rode away, Mahpiya sung:

Vincenzo knelt before the altar, his lips moving in silent prayer. The dim light of the cathedral flickered as a bird swooped in, landing nearby with a missive tied to its leg. Breaking his moment of reflection, Vincenzo reached out, untying the letter and unfolding it. As he read the contents, eyes narrowing with a mix of pity and disdain. He'd then show it to Brother Lug.

He rose slowly, moving to his desk where he took up a quill and parchment, and began to write:

"To the devil who dares speak of honor,

You write to me in defense of a man who had forsaken the light of GOD, a man who chose to walk with the devils and cursed children of Iblees, who was given the chance to repent and denied it. Marus met his end not by murder but by the righteous judgment of GOD. He was given mercy, an opportunity to cleanse his soul and walk in the light once more. He refused. His death was a consequence of his choices, not mine.

Now you, a cursed child, a spawn of Iblees, dare challenge me to a duel? I do not lower myself to duel with those tainted by the corruption of the Fallen One. You are no equal of mine, for you are already damned by your very existence. The tenets of righteousness I follow are clear: "Never refuse a challenge from an equal," but you, devil, are far beneath any man who walks in the light of GOD.

You speak of honor for one who defended creatures like yourself, abominations that have no place among GOD's chosen people. Your misguided beliefs have led you astray, but understand this—there is no honor in defending the wicked, no virtue in standing with those cursed by Iblees. Your words are filled with the deceit of the Fallen One, and I will not be drawn into your lies.

Repent, for your soul is already hanging by a thread. Seek penance, or face the same fate as Marus, for the justice of GOD will come to you, as it does to all who defy His will. I bear you no malice, only pity, for Iblees has poisoned your soul beyond measure.

You wish for death in your letter, and perhaps you will find it soon, but not by my hand. It is GOD's justice that will claim you.

Deus Magnus.

Vincenzo

Servant of GOD, Protector of the Faithful

Vincenzo sealed the letter, attaching it to the bird, sending it off with a flick of his wrist. He returned to his prayers, as if nothing more than the will of GOD had been done.
