real talk i'm a little bit ******** and i find the purple font for the headers difficult to read : (

also i get the aesthetic purpose of having the side by side mental and physical debuffs but it also makes my head hurt and feels really clumped up but maybe i'm in the

i have balance opinions about some of the spells (namely that there's just so many of them, which when paired with the formatting that makes simpletons like me cross their eyes makes it very overwhelming.) but honestly i'd just be happy to see some more cool necro rp again,  i feel like they havn't existed for like two maps.

also i agree with other people upthread that memory deletion is cringe. literally why not just have it kill them, at that point. i don't know how often dark mage players have been on the receiving end of things like this, but doing two hours of rp where you're getting the shit kicked out of you and then getting esoteric paragraph posted at and then at the climax being left in a ditch and told "yeah actually this entire last two hours? you don't remember it!" is super duper cringe. possibly the single worst rp on the server, and if i feel like it's going that way i'm just going to say "could you wrap this up in like ten minutes or kill me?" in looc because i don't want to be audience to a one-man powerfantasy, and i would genuinely prefer if necros could just drain from npcs at that rate.

it simply promotes really bad play patterns (so does requriing killing players to level up but that doesn't appear to be in this write so gold star )

in order to not be wholly negative (because other than the formatting, which is subjective, and the memory thing, i actually thing this is pretty cool), i really like the blackflame spell and it's flavour particularly. it's some proper high fantasy stuff, basically inverted fire, which has good thematic resonance with the inverted life that is Being Undead.

The current spread of spells is:

13 Combative; 10 Noncombative; and 8 Rituals which isn't crazy compared to other current lore pieces esp when you fill 4 or 5 slots.

 

As for your gripe with the memory deletion YOU, yes YOU are in luck because right up above in the comment Unwillingly already pointed out that we still had memory deletion in draining. Why players will ask? Well it turns out that was a funny little overisight (which from now on I shall claim to be intentional as to manufacutre comment rep) based on the current way the exact same similar funny lifeforce draining balooza works in the current form of necromancy and simmilar magics. This we have already gone in and changed, yippee! (if pallo's dm saying he did already is actually true i was watching lord of the rings at the time, if it's not at this exact moment then its something we are changing)

It's a fire rewrite,

 

but..

 

Wiping the whole community that necromancy sits upon? That's an abhorrent thing to do- worse still that not only will it be a wipe of all necromancers, years of covenous experiences and plans for 10.0, but you also write you intend to essentially make it up to staff decision on who learns it. That's an abhorrent thing to do, like it or not- and to no shame of the ST either, but bias is always existing and underlying. The preface intends to clear out all of the current community, and give it into the hands of ST who could trickle it to those they'd like to, rather than those who deserve to have it.

 

I can +1 the lore writing all I want, but to wipe a plethora of communities is just unkind and cruel. If you have an issue with members of the community, seek to place a report against them. Don't wipe them and all their friends, and everyone who has the MA simply due to you having a distaste from a few of the less intelligent of them.

To be frank, no one likes the Necro community. It was in a bad state before femurlord shot it with nerfs for reasons [some persistent] and regardless of anything else, it has remained in said state. Players are actively searching for ways to get out of necromancy, players actively dread and don't want interactions with necromnacy, and most [if not all] of the Necro CAs are regarded as overpowered or fundamentally broken with how LoTC Works; If I can PK your character in a 3am raid where I repeatedly go between CT and your secret 10,000 door lair to test every known block and item just to 3 emote bonk a golden jar, is that good RP for any party? [This has happened].

 

It's not entirely the necros fault; Nearly every oldhead Zar'Akal either doesn't play their persona, wrote a MArt to get out of the Zar'Akal CAs horrible writing, or is flat out PK'd. The sole difference is that Zar'Akals locked in and re-wrote the entire CA from essentially the ground up with a general sense of unity and an understanding of what they want; Necromancy has has mutiple rewrites of differing cohesion by various sects of the community. Whatever write passes will alienate some part of the existing necros, and the same can basically be said of Mysticism with its equally old lore whenever someone rewrites that too.

 

It just needs to all go, and start over. If like 5-7 different player/ST amendments had to come out in the span of 1-2 months to address one part of the necromancer kit, theres likely worse problems buried beneath the seven different lore pages necromancy has. Void shares this problem in theory, and is only spared by the fact no voidal community exists, and instead rotates between whichever mage is active on ST and pushing for changes, good or bad. Johann is really the first person in a long time to re-write a significant part of Void Lore with a single vision and its done wonders; the same should be done in the similarly old magics across the server. It helped Druidism, it helped Templarism and Kani, it helped Naztherak [ish] and it will probably help Necromancy.

Normally, I would agree.

 

But even with the best and most baby proofed lore, I simply can’t make a write that just freely or easily grandfathers in what I’ve seen and rped alongside within the recent necro community. Multiple blacklists from abusing the lore when a player could have easily chosen to operate in mind with fair play, ai written emotes, as well as necromancy boiling down to banditry in many cases.

 

Yes, the write wipes everything but it still leaves avenues for current players to be involved either through the alternate CA’s or to revert, and then seek the magic again. If it gets to a passing stage I am sure LT will also grandfather some MA’s but I will not allow the fresh CA to just be handed out because someone’s had the current magic for a while.

Love it 10/10 very cool makes me really want to make a necromancer after I get bored of my Ghoul (hopefully eventually dark stalker)

 

only part I think has the potential to be bad is all archlich and necromancers lose their abilities which I think could lead to some fine staff corruption of giving it only to the people they like but ehhh we'll see
