Food Plugin Development

I think it would be really cool to have spices that can give buffs or smth (idk)

Imagine having some fancy spice that becomes sought after that you can use in cooking

And also having it affect food spoiling would be nice, gives an incentive to use the system, like lets say people make jerky as like military rations because it extends shelf life to 2 months or smth.

Ultimately the system should be more-so streamlined I think so its not a hassle or convoluted to use I think

Having fully custom recipes as you describe is a great idea, but it is significantly more complex, and has min-maxing risks associated with it. A future update may possibly include it, but it would be a while down the road. The food plugin will be fully compatible with item edit and support item retexturing, so if desired you can just add add lore/change the item appearance in order to have it better represent your own culture's food dish.

Oh shit fr? Retexture and lore support?

I'm so in

Y’all need to chill man, normal vanilla food stuff will be kept for those who are complaining about new content.

And to those who enjoy food rp will have a blast, farmers, bakers, chefs etc.

Looking forward to seeing these implemented bro!

254 players who support a 'cooking plugin', compared to 12 who don't.

However, i believe that a lot of players would not like the pvp foods/potions.

The poll referencing 254 DOES NOT MENTION PVP. can we get a poll around weather or not foodcore should be for pvp or not?

Adding nexus back but only the non pvp parts, the monkey paw curls.

These plugin proposals are not in service to RP generally imo and just add friction to everyday interactions to provide no real benefit to the core experience. I had someone describe to me an idea for breeding that made the animals immune to being smacked with a sword but it seems like you cut that actual QoL improvement from this proposal and instead just added the mmo-lite complications to breeding that, again, don’t really add much to RP aside from seeing a different funny nameplate over a goat when I walk close enough to it. I think all these plugins amount to is tech team adventurism as few staff will have to actually put up with these systems (can freely enter /god to instantly restore hunger) and out of a misguided notion that gathering being too simple is harmful to the server.

I enjoy additions like this, because LOTC has a tendency to feel very dull and entirely text based at times. It feels like people (especially in the replies to this post) confuse roleplay for pure text based interaction and believe anything that pulls people away from that is counterproductive, when that couldn't be further from the truth. What is harmful is the removal of plugins/systems which serve to offer players other things to do on the server when they don't have the time/energy to type, or the addition of plugins which circumvent effort for convenience.

All of that's to say, Tech team is doing its job by implementing plugins exactly like these. I think the direction to go from this next would be to find ways to make race/CA specific mechanics. Orcs being able to eat raw or rotten food, golems, constructs and undead not needing food, and maybe buffs or mechanics for culimancy?

people claim they want 'simplified pvp' and do you know why the guys who say that like simplified pvp? it's to recruit noobs from other servers to fight in your warclaims. that is why

there is not a single fleeper/noob that you would recruit for pvp that would say 'this shi is way too complicated man'

ppl want simplified pvp for alot of legitimate reasons not for whatever slop you just said

didn't i tell you many times in tech chat that people would not like this lol.

once again the players suffer because tech team doesn't understand the needs of the player.

push for functionality and stability before you try anything else. this is not functional, or stable.

As a roleplayer, I would personally like to see recipes be more ambiguous and modular, so as to augment cooking RP, rather than run directly parallel to it. Going "I make a glow berry pie" is cool, but if everything is that specific, there will be a distinct difference between "cooking plug-in" items, and "cooking RP" items.

What I'd like to see if just food in ambiguous categories and "bases" (pie, meat, etc.). You cook it, it slaps on a tag like

[Pie, Good Quality]

And let players lore/rename it freely while keeping it as a mechanically better food. (I would prefer something like X minutes of saturation, personally. That way special food you eat at a more normal rate)

And I like the idea of making crops get biome bonuses for economy RP.

Having said that. I am personally a completionist loot goblin and I will probably go crazy with the plug-in no matter what

I think this is the way to go about it. I'd rather not have specific recipes implemented or given plugin attention, when those recipes could never bring the roleplay important that say.. a pretend, renamed vanilla piece of bread called "haense hardtack" might. Even though the second brings more roleplay than the former.

The plugin is better off having broad, vague foods that are encouraged to be edited. Remember we have things like culimancy too.

If the plugin is implemented it should encourage players to explore their own creativity in food dishes rather than just giving them a pre determined food.

Would be sick if we could add a plugin/mod to allow other creatures in the game, not only would it be sick, but it could also add-on to the new food plugin.

Yeah it’d be cool to have something like mythic mobs

Will we be able to edit the names/descriptions of these items without losing their effects? That would let us keep the ability to have a more specific creation process IRP for the soupmancy crowd.
