Ditto. Back and forths are not the way to go on the matter, though I do stand on the idea that we maybe at least allow the players effected to be upset if they wish on what has been a very sudden and difficult moment, for them and also for the wider community.

For other druid players reading that may be unaware, there's currently multiple rewrites and a redline amendment in the works. But treelord, as a CA, is likely not the only thing in druidism that needs either an update or cleaner rewrite. Losing very old characters has a knock on effect of losing knowledge that can be given to new druid players, and if treelord doesn't one day get shelved, we have to be ready to possibly lose a lot more.

Consider this my plea that the druid community sees that this happened and is ready to lock in on activity and help with the massive amounts of genuinely very good roleplay that has happened between the bad parts of our characters losing loved ones, because there's a lot going on right now and it is not a storyline that can be ignored imo.

i want to respond to your post properly, but just quickly to add here (not sure what time zone you’re in)

I don’t think it’s fair to say you got no response on a discord message sent at 10 PM on Feb 10th. It’s ~4 AM Feb 11th for me (EST, meaning only 6 hours passed in my perspective) and even with time zones adjusted… that’s less than a day to Pallo, who is also a student iirc, and for something more than likely that has to be discussed with the team (given how Squak had involvement per your screenshots).

Nah but take responsibility for your actions. As an epiphyte I tend to rp with my plant once in a while.

I don't like that vague lore has such consequences. And it's a shame this happened this way but you didn't put any effort into your sappling. The bar ain't that high and you still didn't manage that.

Fooldude I love you, but this isn't it.

This is just like when paladins got shelved and most of us crashed out for weeks and quit playing for months. It happens, RP has consequences and sometimes those consequences suck major ass. This is one of those times, you just roll with the punches and move on in time.

Just take a break for a bit, re-calibrate and come back in time. This server has a really specific way of making everyone more sensitive than they need to be, things happen. It's okay to be mad, but doing this whole thing isn't okay. I wish the best for you but please take a break for your mental.

if there was a grand st conspiracy to pk all treelords wouldn't it be way easier to just shelf the lore or amend it into uselessness, assuming that squak is a gigaevil (insert the names of my friends here) hater?

my proposed solution would be to just shelf druidism

I know absolutely nothing about druid lore, but lorewise, do aspects really condone druids working directly with unnatural inferi/undeath beings? Wouldn't that break their pacts or connections?

the aspects are like absent parents, they are unconcerned

Preface: wowj's thoughts, as a player

PK's and Disconnects are written in lore directly and once you apply for these CA's or MA's you are allowing your character, to be disconnected, PKed or shelved at the whims of others, in my opinion, as stated prior, you applied for these applications to use this lore, you cannot complain that something you signed up for (the possibility of character death) happening, this lore specifically has consequence written into it, with DC's & PKs.

While this lore, as pointed out by Druids & Treelords alike, is apparently terribly written, and many chose to complain rather than fix the glaring issues with the piece, just because a mechanic is poorly written, does NOT mean you need you should ignore it! Write an Amendment, tell LT it's broken! though even with these issues it is of my personal opinion that regardless this is a very fair PK mechanic, you're allowed to freeze RP for up to a week & you can carry your sapling on you at all times-- Nothing states it has to be unbound/significantly magical (unable to be soulbound),

Along with this, I agree with ST Management on this (surprising, I know, I'm Green-Tag), as the Lore, does infact state;

Once obtained, this sapling must be nurtured regularly with a consistent supply of druidic energies; otherwise it will wither and die, paining the Tree Lord even more.

While it doesn't say how regularly, I feel like 30 days is a very low bar to set to remove your sapling from a locked chest time-to-time and RP energizing it.

Several inactive tree lords in the past have simply used saplings and continued without issue. If this logic were consistently applied, it would result in a mass permakill of tree lords. That alone shows how flawed this enforcement is.

Many soul trees died, but I do not recall a single case where staff actively searched for saplings or required people to roleplay with them individually just to avoid a PK.

These points in specific, I'm unsure about these situations-- They were not reported, I most certainly never saw sreqs or reports about it, as Moderation/ST-Enforcement goes, They cannot do something about a situation if they don't know about it, although, this was a purely Management decision, I assume it follows a similar suit, how do you punish somebody for something that hasn't been reported and you don't know happened? When something isn't reported, nobody knows about it, nothing will happen, when you report something, something can happen!

For PK's in specifc, you signed the contract, yes your character may be gone, but remember, you are not, and you, role-played the character, reach for the star and try for an even more awesome character on your next roll, you'll probably have fun after the growing pains of starting a new character.

For DC's in specific, you signed the contract, your character is not ruined by losing their magic, there's character arcs able to be done if you have the strive to role-play them! I'd know, I got DC'd from a magic I really liked, but I don't see it as a total loss, it happened, that's RP, I don't mind it! I can roleplay as a scourned mage now, there's arcs and roleplay here for eyes to see.

nd us because it would count as part of the CRP lock from the previous fight

Despite not being a moderator, I believe I know how moderators think, I was a mod for 4 days.

To your point of mods not allowing others to enter CRP as your soul-tree got attacked during a CRP lock, yeah. It's CRP locked, by LoTC Rules this means no new people can join, this fight by all intents and purposes is the exact same fight when CRP was locked the seven days ago, as the roleplay was frozen for several days.

  • Once combat is locked, players involved in the fight will be “invisible” to everyone who is not in the combat. This means players spectating after lock will be watching from an OOC standpoint and may not interact nor acknowledge the fight.

They don't really gaf because it's descendant business. They'd only care if they were doing massive damage to nature directly to destroy it, and even then it's considered a job for other druids to handle, not mom and dad that left for cigs and won't call

When you apply for a transformative CA, you do so with full acceptance of the rules, guidelines and potential risks that come from your character abandoning their descendant soul and chasing higher powers. This was one of these risks. A CA exists to offer a greater level of reward for higher stakes drawbacks. Every transformative CA comes with some variety of PK or perma-shelf clause. Phylactery-style mechanics are very common and have been shown to work across the board with diff CAs. Azdrazi have drakeshrines, Wights, Darkstalkers and Draugars have phylacs, liches can be boxed, bound ghosts have anchors.

CAs are designed to never be infallible. They always have some sort of death mechanic.

It is frustrating, but you are expected to read the lore and accept the consequences that may eventually arise. I've never played a druid and never will most likely, but it makes a great deal of sense that a sapling sat in a chest for weeks on end is unable to feasibly survive. It sucks to lose a character-- especially when it is unexpected. You've put hours, days or maybe even weeks, months or years worth of time into a character that you're likely going to form an attachment to, and to have that come to such an abrupt end is shocking and often upsetting. Being slightly upset over a character death is completely valid as long as you maintain accountability and handle it gracefully. However, this also creates a great opportunity for roleplay [Imagine druids scrambling to find teachers, to rebuild bigger and better than before. Maybe shuffle around culture and vibes to something more vengeful] and OOC and IC lessons to be learned.

It wasn't a play of bad faith in the attackers' end. They've explicitly stated that they went in without the intent of PKing anyone. It is just an unfortunate side effect.

It's unpleasant, but it was wholly avoidable on your end-- and I say that as someone who hates doing self-roleplay as well. I get it. It can be boring, but when your character's immortal soul hangs in the balance, I'd say it becomes less difficult when PK is a very real threat. I had no issue with churning out Klone roleplay back when I was in those circles and taking time out of my rp schedule to check on the vats, make new ones etc. It is very rare that staff enforce a hard PK for these things but it is clearly a recurring and frequent issue that in my opinion unfortunately justifies that you have to be the example and not the exception in this instance.

The moral of this story is to always read the fineprint.

You would think so, but it's a pretty tough decision between letting the community self-regulate and staff getting to decide who lives and dies in a much more direct way.

Edit : I won't clutter up the thread with more replies, but I didn't mean to say that the Aspects would otherwise be present narratively. When I asked my teacher (EVONPIRE) this question, he gave me the "gas station dad" bit, which I've used with my students too. But when I asked what would be the consequence of the Aspects being able to Unattune, the answer was 'more staff control'. This was poorly worded on my end and I was a bit braindead at this point.

Our group won, your group lost.
You did not read the redlines, you did not attempt a rewrite.

It is a terrible outcome, but it is rp.

can we stop arguing and move on?
