The only real way to mitigate it would be to implement a white list. But some of you have dynamic IPs so that would be a little hard to keep up to date. And if the DDOSer is savvy, they'd spoof their botnet. And then we're back to square one.

Unfortunately the only true way to defeat a DDOS is to have more bandwidth than their combined botnet. But thats a pretty expensive solution. But it does work, which is why google and yahoo aren't crippled unless a group gets together.

HOW expensive? I would be personally willing to sacrifice a paycheck or two to make sure we all have a lagfree experience. I'm only new here and don't have many friends but still want everyone to enjoy this server as much as I have been doing.

Edit: Also, as someone who has taken part in many a DDoS attack (not against this server) I can say half of the fun is watching the recipient, whether that be a person, group or company, rage hard over the fact they are lagging/inactive.

Remember guys, you may be mad but don't show it. That will only encourage them.

I tried playing on the server for roughly ten minutes and got nowhere with it. It kept crashing and when I logged back in my texture pack was doing something weird (None of the terrain textures had any texture) So yeah I would just stay off for now and let the admins continue their great battle with the hackers.

Greetings, fellow Aegisians!

You've probably noticed we've had some downtime on both the Servers and Forums over the last few days.

The reason for this is that we are currently being relentlessly DDoS'd by a unknown group. However, we are working hard to repel the hackers and keep our servers online, providing the RP experience you know and love.

Remember, take screenshots of your inventory periodically!

Why? It might seem to be a annoyance, but it will guarantee you a reimbursement if you lose any items due to a crash (Remember to have a visible timestamp in the picture).

In the meantime, why not explore the Forums? The forums are a great place to RP and share experiences with other Adventurers, as well as search for information on strange and new places!
