Freya, does this have to be a short story? Would it violate the spirit of the competition if I threw down an epic with chapters and subplots and stuff like that, or should I try to keep it 'novella' sized if I decide to submit one?

It can be anything. As long as it relates to LOTC lore in some way.

It could be based IN the LOTC universe, IE: In Asulon.

Or it could be the polar opposite - perhaps in the far future, on a dystopian world, where Mori own a evil corporate empire? (Oh god, that thought is horrific).

Well you got the dystopia and mori part right about what I was writing. However its not a corporate empire....its much worse.

I don't mind reading a metric ton of writing, but it's more about the overall cohesion and final punch of the ending. Having a long piece could potentially be better, but it could also be a lot of waffle, which will hurt more than help overall.

Short and snappy, but enough detail to get your teeth into :)

One more post and I'll stop trolling for a while, Where should we post these stories and is everyone limited to submitting only one? I'm sure we would all agree that should a user be allowed to enter multiple entries that he/she would only accept a prize for there best to insure as many people are awarded for there efforts as possible. It would be so hard for me to choose just one entry...so hard.

My suggestion would be everyone create a new sub-topic "Perhaps a Forum Mod could set this up for us" With this title ((Asulon Novella Competition - "Title of Novella"))

Another reward, I am personally inviting all authors to Roger's Tavern in Alras after the contest for a party like Asulon hasn't seen yet!
