Intro

The library rests where rest is provided, yet It sits deep within.

It gives to some and not to others yet does not judge.

It speaks with the howling winds but is quiet and meek.

It has no physical gift of power but holds the power given by existence.

Those who seek the Library must let go of society to learn of it once more.

Lore

The Legend of the Grand Library

In the chilly plains of the North, a rumor was carried across the wind about a Grand library that sat far below the surface. It was said that the library held a wealth of knowledge on subjects from the mundane to the arcane. Legend says that it once stood as a source for those who respected the knowledge that they were given. Beings from the farthest reaches of Aegis contributed knowledge to the library. Stories told of it being buried far beneath the earth for protection and guarded by a select few who truly understood the power held within its walls. It was said that those who sought the Grand library would not recognize it upon sight. Many had ventured in search of the knowledge for selfish gain, but alas they could not find the library. Word spread of the library being a mere myth fabricated like all other odd tales on the land.

Many turned from their searches to continue on with their lives. A group of dungeon seekers did not though. They had heard all of the clues, tricks, and riddles that many had sworn would lead them to the library. To no avail, the words did them no good. Years later a book was spread through the land about the Grand library. An aging elf by the name Aeilenor Vallavern, was said to be the author. He was an odd fellow who spent his time in the far reaches of the North. The adventurers traveled far into the mountains for weeks seeking the one being that knew about the library.

In the recess of the mountain tops sat a small village that seemed to have been ravaged by raiders and fire. Most of the homes were no more than charred wooden beams and piles of ashes. In the back sat a home that was repaired. Wooden planks and beams were nailed to the walls and roof. Unsure of what lay within the home, one scared adventurer walked on the broken steps to the door. He gave three rhythmic knocks on the door. Dust and snow fell with each knock. The sound of a chair sliding was heard. Then slowly light footsteps followed the noise. The door knob seemed to take longest to turn and it shook the door when it was fully turned. The door slid open revealing a dimly lit room with a single table and chair. Beside the door was an elf hobbled over a cane and looking sternly at the adventurers.

The elf shifted his weight, slightly standing taller. “What doth ye seek?” said the old elf. The Adventurers all chimed in to say the Grand library. The grizzled elf eyed them all out and said “What do ye seek in life?” The adventurers pondered his words for a moment before one cried out and said, “I have no time for riddles old man! We have sought the library for nearly five years and ye art the only way to it. So where doth the library rest?” The elf looked deeply into the lads eyes and began to chuckle. “Solve the riddle in the book.” The riddle read: The library rests where rest is provided. It sits deep within. It gives to some and not to others. It speaks with the howling winds but is quiet and meek. It has no physical gift of power but can wipe opposition from existence. Those who seek the Library must let go of society to learn of it once more.

One man decided to stay. He had no life to go back to and wasn’t going to give up on his dream. Though his partners dropped the dreams of the library, he did not. He stayed at the old elf’s home trying his best to figure out the riddle. He began to study with the elf and learn of the days of old. He learned of the races of the land and languages nearly lost to the world. He had become a very knowledgeable man with wit unfathomed. After nearly seven years in that mountain, the elf asked the man where the library was. The man thought for a moment and began to think about the riddle. His eyes opened widely and darted around as he began to realize the truth. “Where is it?”, said the elf again with a grin. The man’s mouth opened slowly into a smile. “Ye...ye art the library, ye...we art the library. We are the library! It is here, I am here!”

The man jumped to his feet and ran to the elf with glee. The elf smiled lightly and said “In the days when I learned, there was no physical library, but rumors of bandits and raiders seeking teachers for their amusement forced us to create the myth. With each line of knowledge holders, we had continued the tradition of passing down the legend of the Grand library. I want ye to be my successor as protector of this knowledge.” After agreeing to the terms of such knowledge, the man lived on and slowly began to spread hints and whispers of some knowledge in an attempt to gain pupils. World began to spread amongst the northerners of a library that held a great amount of knowledge. The man eventually had three pupils; a human northerner, a high elf, and a human from Oren.

The Setting of the Sun

Darkness fell over the land as a new beast threatened to cause havoc. The Undead conquered the North like the snow storms that dwelled there. Many lives were taken and the northern pupil wanted to fight alongside his kinsmen to protect his home. The pain burned inside him and he became enraged at the destruction that greeted his homeland. The other pupils tried to comfort the northern pupil, but nothing eased his pain. He asked his leader if he and the other pupils could join the fight against the undead but the leader immediately told him to find peace within himself instead of seeking it on the plains of war.

The pupil battled within himself for the pain to go away but he could no longer bear it. He knew what he wanted and he sought it. The northern pupil stood against the undead, as many others would soon do, but the power they held smote him from existence. The leader and pupils received word of his death but had to continue with what was before them. The leader began setting up structure to his plans. He set up what he thought was best for the times to come. The undead ravaged the land slowly making their way over each nation. The other human pupil fell with Oren. The human only sought power over others and suffered for it. The pupil was in the city writing the knowledge down when the undead wiped it out. Only one pupil remained.

The High elf pupil stayed as a pupil for some time. Even after the fall of Malinor, he did not leave the leader. Was it fear that the he would die that kept him faithful to leader or maybe his conscious brought him to doing “the right thing”. The sun was setting on Aegis and many were readying themselves for an escape. The leader boarded a ship but the pupil did not. The leader cried out to the pupil to come along but he didn’t move. He saw no point in delaying the inevitable. He knew from the time he received word of the other pupils’ deaths that he would be next. He faced the fire and destructions as he walked back to his old home. The leader had lost all of his pupils, his life was setting just as Aegis’ was and he knew that he needed to pass on the mantle.

The Eclipse

He could wait no longer. He began finding people who had nothing to live for. He gave them hope in themselves and in the races of the land. The leader knew he that he needed to find pupils but he had nothing to show those who bore the gift. Every so often there was an eclipse, a dark sign of what happened to the nations of old. It also served as a reminder of the rebirth of the people of Aegis in the new land of Asulon. The leader chose to use the eclipse as the reminder of the rebirth of the men and women dedicated to keeping the sacred knowledge of the land.

(The ability doesn’t have to stay, if the ability of summoning such as this is approved then and only then will the ability be added. Otherwise, only the tradition of the eclipse skin painting will stay.) The eclipse was the source of his power. In the times of the undead, he could feel the energy of the eclipse in its brief moments before attacks began. The new pupils who moved through the ranks would be dipped into the dark pools of ink from the squid on the coast. Then after fully dedicating themselves to the order, they would be covered in white powder and given unique red body paint. These pupils were to wear white robes, but after they became brethren of the order they would wear black robes and armour with unique ceremonial designs.

He began drawing power from the eclipse using energy from his soul (soulstones) and books. He began to be able to channel the power. He used the power to summon light. It seemed that it was the extent to the power but soon he realized that the power from his soul could be used to animate minor souls. He could not create light or darkness without using his soul though. He realized that the power drained him with each summoning and that if he were to overdo it he would die. He realized that He set out to find followers who would respect the knowledge. Eventually he felt that it was time to expose the truth to the public and gain a new batch of pupils.

Purpose

The Arcane Chronicle is an order that collects and protects the knowledge of the land. From languages to poems or common construction to arcane processes, the Arcane Chronicle does what it must to keep the knowledge safe. Along with protecting knowledge, the members of this order help many in research of subjects from around the world. They study the stars, divine deities, and ancient powers of the world. They generally stay neutral but assist those who will not abuse the knowledge gained. (Again, if the summoning is approved then they will study summoning. Over time word spread of the Aenguls and Daemons. At first the order counted it as more stories amoungst men but over time the Aengul's and Daemon's works told them otherwise. The worship of nature was removed and now they merely see nature as one force of energy. Not to be worshipped but rather controlled and understood. They try to connect to the "stream" of energy and life around them. Some meditate in a calm area, while others meditate in the roughest forces of nature. Whatever allows them to open their senses to nature and its power.

((This sounds promising. I know there was talk of a rain dance spell for shaman and a night spell for necromancers. These would require multiple casters and would only be performed every now and then. It's very possible that a night with an eclipsed moon could be summoned. It's just a matter of getting the group together and making it an official magic group that has access to the plugin. Also, in case you hadn't noticed, the recent Minecraft update has the moon travel in various phases, one of which could be treated as an eclipse.))

((I was hoping to use the eclipsed moon as a specific time to accept people as full fledged members. A very special ritual is performed that is synonymous to the moon phases around the the time of the eclipse to accept people into the order fully. I will try to talk to the Gms about this.))

I think this is a truly phenomenal write-up and a great idea. I loved reading it, I read it 5 times.

Ive looked around and Ive found a coastal peninsula where I wish to rp that the moon passes over it. I may not in the end but it depends. (If approved) This wont be too far from cloud temple but that is all I will say for now.

Edit: Also, as a quick mention, this order will be heavily involved in the calendar. This includes, Seeds, Seasons, and moon phases. All members will have to learn the calendar to the best of their ability. Get use to regularly watching for the eclipsed moon specifically.
