What if instead of Dwarves being the only ones able to mine diamond + gold, they are the only race which can enchant?

You could have it so enchantment, alchemy (and I guess a few other skills) would be limited to a particular race. It's a bit less drastic then the ability to mine. Still won't happen, but an idea.

It would be really hard to RP a dwarf that is solely underground. We would need a LOT to do in the city to keep us solely down there, and I think half of the current dwarves just wouldn't be able to handle it.

Unfortunately it's hard to make true dwarven rp exist without making it boring...people want to adventure and have fun, not hide in an underground city..if only there was a compromise, or a way to make it fun

At the moment, for me anyway, RPing as a city dwarf is very hard...it's more of a job then somthing you enjoy. I envy the pirates, they have a simple and fun lifestyle, but the nobility and Karik-livers are constantly at work trying to improve the kingdom. There has got to be ways to make it more fun)

I rather doubt that the pirates are going to sail their boats into Karik.... ;P Besides, while I VERY much prefer being the only ones to make diamond and gold tools/weapons/armour, I would be alright with only, say, High Smiths and above in the Smith's Guild being able to enchant.

((The hard part about making Dwarves realistic in RP, is the fact that Dwarves are not a social race. If we base LotC dwarfs on all others throughout literature, they would only RP with themselves and any others that came to them. If you wanted to interact with other people... don't be a dwarf. But in order for this to work, mining would have to be a race specific skill. Anyone could dig stone, coal and even iron, but only dwarves could gather diamond and gold. That way if you wanted the best tools and weapons, you HAD to visit the dwarves for it. IC wise it would be a pain, but realistically that's how it should be. I don't see this happening since the player base of non dwarves would throw a hissy and rage all over the place. As far as wars go, dwarves would not care what ANYONE else did. Only joining wars that attempt to attack their own capital. Defenses would be improved, treasure would be hoarded, and we would socially cut ourselves off from everyone except those buying from us. Our numbers would go way down, but the RP would be true and realistic for dwarves.))

Alras is on that part out of any RP, teir Dwarves but act like Humans or Elves. No offense and also, seeing as that is nearly impossible to do currently, we just need our Lore changed. Like, Hiebe Dwarves in Lotr live only Underground but we are NOT and will NEVER be those Dwarves, not only because of copy rights but seeing as this is an RP server we have the choice to create what we love and that is currently getting a city where there is always somewhere to RP. A long way to go but yet, posts like these don't really help in my Opinion))
