Brent 281 Share Posted March 3, 2012 The server would first need to be purged of all of the miserably horrible 'roleplayers'. What is with you and not rolling?
Heero 4092 Share Posted March 3, 2012 Perhaps regions can become PVP zones for wars/major battles, but in a 1vs1 sense, maybe Vaq can code like a request-to-pvp plugin? I mean, that should solve it completely.
Sporadic 2844 Share Posted March 3, 2012 PvP is and always will be necessary in certain situations. It is of course the gentlemanly thing to do to offer an RP fight even when the odds are truly in your favor, but there shall always be people who make ill use out of this kindness. In this case, it's better to get your excellent RP in before the actual fight.
JCQuiinn 168 Share Posted March 3, 2012 Brent, a lot of people prefer to not role. And no, this has nothing to do with the fact that we ‘try to powergame out of every situation’. It instead stems from the fact that some of us have an understanding of how certain weapons are used in combat. If my character is highly trained with a quarterstaff and is fighting someone with a sword, chances are she’s gonna win. I’m not going to throw it up in the air based upon how lucky my rolls are. Combat is based upon technique, training, strength, and finesse. It usually has nothing to do with luck. You instead should force your opponent into a position they cannot get out of without powergaming.
Brent 281 Share Posted March 3, 2012 I understand that... but I see her in a lot of topics saying something about not rolling. No offence. :/
Fredfort (jens6851) 283 Share Posted March 3, 2012 About the rolling thing.. I'm only using role'ing in very few situations.. Like trying to heal someone with a spell or something like that.. Cause.. You have to know your boundaries of your character and be able to react how she/he would.. A armored guy tries to grab my char (Jena) She's lightweight and is "never" using armor.. Which means, she will probably be able to evade his grabs a couple of times.. Now.. If we say he's tough tough guy, strong and fast.. Jena would get caught and there's nothing I can do about it, but sometimes you can escape stuff, if your planning it well.. Jena was hold down by a man, he had a big two handed axe ( he had described that when he drew it. ) He was then trying to cut Jenas head off.. I know.. You can do that kind of stuff.. But with a two handed axe? No way.. Sometimes you just have to play fair.. And be like.. Okay.. Lets try to make some rp.. And actually don't think about it kill itself.. Which people tend to.. :) Btw.. I got no idea if pvp should be turned on or not.. I don't know how it would affect the server.
bungo 3965 Share Posted March 3, 2012 You CANNOT rely on people using the /damage command. In my opinion, it just won't happen, people will get out of it or do a small bit of damage. I could see OOC chat in RP of how many hearts to do ect. I also see ban reports going up for people not doing /damage. In my opinion, it's just a bigger hassle and worse of a situation than it already is. Like I said in previous posts, PvP allows for people to loose items, allows the economy to grow, allows villains to prosper/fall, allows the skill system to be usefull and not everyone will be an amazing killing machine that mines for ores, smelts his ores, and bakes also. PvP as a hole, has never done much harm. It's people incompetent of having that luxury that abuse it and end up getting their Villain Apps revoked/gettings Banned. During my time on the server, PvP has improved my love for the server because "Bandits" actually scared me IC/OOC as I had to go through forests as a merchant just to get from city to city because I could not take any risks. I can see the Pros/Cons to this situation. I just believe that PvP improves the server a bit more than people give it credit for. It may improve role-play a bit, although it will decrease the fun of the server for many people. Not those that are "PvP Hungry", regular people who walk on the road, wanting to role-play with a bandit of some sort, and there are none. That's how it felt when Villain Applications were put in place. Anyways, enough rambling.
Brent 281 Share Posted March 3, 2012 Oh, with the /damage, I cuts someobe in the head for 15 hearts, then stabbed him in the chest... only he waited 30 seconds for his health to regenerate to do it... really stupid.
TRAY 162 Share Posted March 3, 2012 I'm not sure about this. Pvp just makes RP so much fun.
Trouvo 205 Share Posted March 3, 2012 i guess it comes down to a matter of perspective and experience, too many times have i tried to actually have some roleplay and the other person or group just finds someway to ruin it with powergaming, so from my experience with that, it is my perspective that if pvp was removed such people like that would find less reason to powergame and will either actually do some rp, or the powergamer would quit the server, either way it would be win-win
kido122 23 Share Posted March 3, 2012 I perfer PvP, I think it increases the RPing experience. If you turn it off there will be less bandits and other villians which will get rid of some potentialy good RPers. Besides IRL we can't just turn off the ability to kill each other. PVP has nothing to do with villain or even murdering. It's still possible to murder someone without the aid of PVP. Actually, instead of idiots with swords rushing at you, you'd have people RP'ing out an attack, assassination, etc.
ℓαтєяяє ~ 236 Share Posted March 4, 2012 PvP should be off in places like towns, cities, etc. It might be on on the roads, but defenitly on for wars. We are technically, a 'light' PvP server. Many PvPers are what you had stated. Killing Machines. The PvPers have 100 swords, but also cook, fish, mine, cut wood, all of that. Too many 'jack-of-all-trades'. If there was less PvP, it would increase the peaceful jobs, also. The ones never spoken about. Fletchers, Tanners, Jewlers might even come up. That would be much, much better.

Gorum© 623 Share Posted March 4, 2012 I have yet to see an RP fight without power gaming, besides, Vaq made such a good fighting system. Why disable it? It'd make things boring, and situations even harder to deal with. Besides, we're like power gaming central, it's impossible for our server as a whole to pure role play.
