What about changing the IP? Would that work or would they just retarget that instead? And I have some donation ideas that I feel would generate lots of money but they are never seen by Admins or GMs.

Believe us when we say that we (Vaq) have tried everything, and this is the conclusion we have come to. Any suggestions that are made in this thread I guarantee you have already been made, but unfortunately buying this anti-DDoS software is the only thing we can do.

Changing the IP also takes hours.

I'm going to say this, and i'm sorry... But what the friggen hell? People are so hateful that they'd ruin people's creative outlet? What kind of sick minded *fill in the blank with a colorful word* would do something that horrible?

I don't know about the rest of you, but this is my up point in my day. I love coming here, roleplaying, chatting, sharing my opinion on things, and it makes me absolutely SICK someone would do this. Why would someone hate people this much? It's just downright horrid.

Now I know this seems downright mellow dramatic, i'm sure, and i'm not saying it isn't, but right now, I really don't care. It simply pisses me off that someone would do something like this. It's absolutely horrible.

Everyone on LOTC: If there was ever a time to pull together as a community it's now. We can't do this on our own, and we defiantly can't afford to lose this amazing server to some ignorant ass hat who is sitting in their mother's basement at the age of 48 DDOSing a roleplay server because their life plain sucks.

We need to pull together. Focus your efforts away from writing ban and strike reports and into roleplay, lore ideas, helpful guides, anything to help the community. Have some extra money? Send it to the server. We NEED your help. We can't just sit back and hope everything works out.

Come on, LotC. Let's do this. Let's pull together. Let's give the finger to this DDoSer and show them they can't make us leave.

If you are unable to resolve the problem on your own I would recommend immediately going to sign up with a DDOS migitating service for roughly the price range you quoted per month. (200-400ish), they can have everything set up in a few hours or less and that would tide the server over until a more permanent solution was sorted out or you guys made the decision that you can afford the monthly fee necessary from donations, advertising, etc.

That would at least help to get everything moving again as the downtime can severely impact new server signups, player retention, etc. The longer it goes on the worse, I'm confident with the community size that is currently here you guys would be able to sort out a method to cover the costs if necessary.

If there is currently no money available then I'm sure the community can rally together the few hundred dollars needed to start the DDOS protection monthly payment.

Further down the line a monthly goal that was publicly displayed showing the amount of progress required to cover the monthly costs could go a long way to motivating people to contribute to the server that they love and enjoy for free to keep it running.

Regardless good luck and I'm confident you guys will be able to find a solution, keep soldiering on. ;)

Is the server hosted on a computer or an actual server?

If it's hosted on a computer, you should try to possibly get it on an actual server, and rent it out. It's much much harder to DDoS attack an actual server host, and it's probably way cheaper than the anti-DDoS protection, I believe roughly $30-$100 a month depending on the quality.
