A New Way of Applying [3.0 App System]

 Share

Howdy! In the video below I outline the Application System that will be implemented shortly before 3.0. The video is of Asulon, pay attention to the audio only. Please excuse any messups by me with speaking, I'm reading from a script and trying to speak clearly, so everyone could understand - something that isn't easy with being Scottish.

Also keep in note that no details in this system are completely finalized yet, although they will mostly all be included.

The music is a composition by 'Holst', and was performed by Kevin McLoed and is part of his royalty-free music library located at www.incompetech.com

If you have any questions regarding the system, be sure to query below!

THAT VOICE!

I must say its nicely explained, I would be interested to see how this turned out, and hopefully work along with it in the future when I come back to my little family of App Team Members~

I like this system. It's taken all the minor faults the original system had and changed them for advantages. I especially liked the 'Application for each race' part.

The system is great. Your barbaric voice, is not.

Could we have the script/details copy+pasted for those unable to listen to audio/watch videos atm?

I changed it / added parts / removed parts whilst speaking, but this is the script I worked from:

Hello there, welcome to a brief video detailing the new Lord of the Craft Application system on the horizon! I’ve been working on this for quite a while now and I believe that it’s nearly ready to be passed onto the Application Team, GM Team and Administration Team to find faults and to finalize. With this new system one of my main aims was to make the introduction of new players to the server so much friendlier and easier for them than it is currently. Keep in mind that this system ain’t finalized yet, and may see some changes before implementation.

As is, applicants are simply thrown in at the deep-end with applications and when they join they receive very little assistance, which is really not that great! Something that I, as the head of applications should be doing is ensuring that applicants are given all of the resources and help that they need to be able to attach to the community and to be able to fit in immediately.

There’s a wide variety of new things coming with this new system, and I’ll briefly detail them here before elaborating on a few later on:

Firstly, is the new application itself - we’re introducing racial applications, meaning that each race has it’s own application. This allows us to ensure that the new players actually do know about the lore of the race they intend on playing as!

Secondly, is the the main application thread - currently it lists rules and the format, hardly very useful, is it? With this new system the applicant isn’t given an application format immediately - they’re given the chance to pick the race they want to play as from a menu and be greeted by links, information and a profile of that race (including a neat wee video). In addition, the application thread is no longer just a block of text and instead is nicely formatted for easy reading.

Thirdly, the assistance given to the applicant themselves via guides. An array of guides in regards to races, useful links and what they should/shouldn’t do in an application will be created and made openly available for them. Player-made guides will be formatted for easy reading and then moved into the forum so that the applicants can easily access them and make use of the valuable information.

Finally, the layout of the applications forum will change, with each race having it’s own guide area and there being a general guide area. This will hopefully make the area more organized and easy to navigate.

In addition to alterations made to the public face of the system - the application team will become more organized, with regulations and rules being put into place to ensure fair and consistant reviewals. No longer will different application team members be having different standards.

This system will arrive before 3.0 - as I want to ensure that the Application Team and player-base are used to it, as I’m expecting a flood of applications when we get a new world and trailer up! I also expect players to be drawn by a new player-attracting system that I have proposed to shiftnative to be introduced once 3.0 is around. You’ll learn about that at a later date.

I just want to go into a small amount more detail here regarding racial applications - this is an idea that has been thrown around for quite a while but has never really been put into place. Some people seem to be a bit nervous about the idea, thinking it’ll be too complex, etc but in all honesty - I’d call this new system simpler. The OOC areas of each application are virtually the same, it’s only the in-character and ORQ areas that are different.

The addition of actual profiles of the races on the application thread will hopefully encourage players to actually read the lore and learn about the race rather than just applying randomly.

Finally, as any players who joined in Asulon should know we had a tutorial dungeon inside which they learnt the basic aspects of server life from monks and from the books inside the library. This is something that I am keen to include with the new world, and it is something that you will see extremely developed upon with it. In addition to that, Wandering Souls will also see a nice little addition to their experience entitled ‘The Hub’. The hub is an area in which they can access teleports to various locations which removes the idea of warps for them - we did start work on something akin to this in Asulon but it was never really finished. Currently, ‘The Hub’ has five locations: The Human Lands, The Dwarven Lands, The Orcish Lands, The Elven Lands and the spawn area itself.

I look forward to the date on which I can actually release this new system, which will hopefully aid with the process of new players integrating with the current community and ensuring that they have the maximum experience that we, as a server, can offer.

I would love to see the finalised versions of these racial videos. Do you think we could have people voice acting as the different races? A serene voice for the elves, scottish for the dwarves etc.

It would also be good if racial videos could be really in depth, ideally with player consultation before they're made. For instance, you could create an idea thread for each video for players to post feedback on. I'd love to see an elf video, showing wood elves, dark elves, and high elves all together in their different communities.

I was intending on having the races voiced by players with suitable voices for it! :-) The videos will explain the lore and also key figures, etc. I'll make threads regarding that in future.

Hey Danny? Can you send me a recording of yourself saying "There's still one Dwarf left in Moria!"? :3
