We need to be more thorough in our defenses and religiously back-up everything constantly. We should have backups to our backups. There's no reason for us to lose something as critical as the world map unless it simply due to a lack of funding or resources. If we're lacking resources for these things, it needs to be made known immediately so we can raise money for it.

Transparency, there's that word again. How many of you would like to have known that our world map had its balls flapping in the wind, unguarded and unsaved?

I'm a poor boy, but I'll throw down some bones if it means that something like this does not happen again. The community's here to help, we just need to know what's going on.

Press on, gents.

Indeed I also vented my frustration at reag when I found this out the website and 3.0 server is backed up religiously due to 50% paranoia and 50% sense.

Right. So I was deliberating actually being the bearer of bad news here, but I fear these questions should be addressed else we still be in the dark about the future of LotC.

While I appreciate and am impressed by the quick work of creating the 2.5 and hastening of 3.0, we are clearing up an effect of the main issue, mainly the malicious and almost constant and regular DDoS of our servers. My question is, what is going to be done about the main issue? If the attacks persist, regardless of 3.0 or not, it will ultimately push players out of LotC as the attackers want. What are options we can explore? :(

Quick question, don't have to answer it real fast. But if the main server was deleted that means the whitelist and ban list were lost as well?

No. They lost the world file, when you create a server the whitelist and blacklist are completely separate files. Therefore, they still have them ;)

I'm kinda glad I didn't inquire about buying that house in Asulon now!

By the way, when's the temporary server going to be up?

Ok hold on if it was just the map then why does Dgco go on to say it was all lost? My understanding is when you create a server the whitelist goes in the server folder and Dgco goes on to say the main folder was lost. Could a admin or shift clear this up because that's bad.

We have the best /free/ DDoS protection we can find. If you want better protection, your going to have to fork over cash for it :/.

On the topic of malicious attacks, I /believe/ (Though, Im still invenstigating. We have gigabytes of logs) someone hacked the root password and deleted the minecraft folder, plus all the backups. It had nothing to do with our DDoS problem...

So, we're still being Ddosed? Dang, i thought it was over after we rented the protection.

Here's my cat to calm all of your minds. :(

No no there not being ddos'd, there down because a temp map would be in poor character of this server's name. There currently making temp islands to hop to 3.0 land. Thats what I understand.

Cute cat btw.
